WS-10C has a rumored wet thrust of around 140-150Kn. This is the interim engine of J-20 coming off assembly lines now.

WS-15 is supposed to have wet thrust of 180Kn.

Rumors are that WS-15 has been installed on J-20 for testing. But other said it was WS-10 TVC that was installed on June 24th.

No figures of dry but that is usually 60% of wet. Hopefully we will get more figures soon. Maybe after WS-10 is exported on J-10CE to Pakistan later this year.

Anyways, very exciting times for Chinese engine development! (Highly anticipating WS-13E and WS-19 -- 110Kn -- for J-31/35 too!)

Oh! i guess we have to wait till ws15 fully operational to find out, was hoping it would atleast match f-135 since f119 is 20-30 year old now. ( also dry thrust of f119 is close to 75% of its wet thrust, blows my mind thinking its 30 year old tech, god know by how much they will extend this lead in ngad)

Very hard to match US and in general Western engine. Even Russia has issues.

But thrust is not usually the problem. The problem is maintenance (TMO) and lifespan. The later WS-10 variants and WS-15 will have high thrust. The issue is how long they will last between overhauls and replacement.

WS-10 variants are as exciting as the WS-15 to be honest, especially with TVC. J-20, J-10C, J-16, J-15T/S/D variants and possibly J-11D will all be getting WS-10 variants in coming years!

The best plane on the planet ": Russian Su-75" Checkmate "can change the Indian tender
Yesterday, 10:16

At the recent MAKS-2021 in Zhukovsky near Moscow, the Russian Su-75 Checkmate stealth fighter made a splash. China, Vietnam and India have already become potential buyers of the aircraft, and the latter, taking into account the possible purchase of the Su-75, may change its MMRCA tender for the purchase of 126 fighters.

An important competitive advantage of the Russian aircraft is its price of $ 25-30 million, which is cheaper than the Swedish Saab Gripen (about $ 85 million), the American F-35 and the French Dassault Rafale ($ 115 million each).

The Checkmate made a special impression on the experts in India, whose air force is mostly composed of Russian aircraft. According to a senior researcher at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Research (IPCS) in New Delhi, Abhijit Iyer Mitra, India may conclude a contract for the purchase of the Su-75.

Now that Russia has a single-engine fighter, they can take part in the competition and, in my personal opinion, they have a very good chance of winning an Indian contract.

- said the analyst in an interview with the EurAsian Times.

At the same time, Iyer-Mitra believes that the Su-75 "Checkmate" is the most acceptable option for New Delhi in the face of the growing threat from Beijing. Aircraft capable of competing with the Russian fighter jet are too expensive. In addition, the Americans will not sell their F-35s to a country that is armed with Russian S-400 systems. In comparison with the Chinese J-20 and FC-31 "Checkmate" wins in terms of aerodynamics, invisibility to radars and infrared stealth.

Russian fighter jet is the best plane on the planet

- believes Iyer-Mitra.

Thus, according to the Indian expert, if the high quality of the Su-75 is confirmed in practice, Russia will achieve serious success.

J-20 tests with WS-15 engines
Aviation industry, Military aviation, July 31, 2021
Testing of the newly manufactured Chengdu J-20B stealth combat aircraft prototype with native Shenyang WS-15 engines is underway in Chengdu.

Newly produced prototype of the Chengdu J-20B stealth combat aircraft with target native Shenyang WS-15 engines in test flight / Photo: Twitter

The first serial J-20s were equipped with Russian AL-31FM2 engines with a thrust of 145 kN. Domestic WS-10C engines (J-20A with WS-10C engines, 2021-01-06), with a thrust of 155 kN, began to be installed in the J-20A in mid-2019 (15 J-20 for the centenary of the CCP, 2021-07-01 ). Their disadvantage is a small resource.

Ultimately, the serial J-20B engines are to be powered by WS-15 engines with 180 kN afterburning thrust. Their use should allow the plane to reach supersonic speed without the use of afterburners. According to unofficial sources, the current version of the WS-15 develops 90 kN without afterburning, and 150 kN with afterburner. The engine life is expected to reach 8,500 hours.

The plans provide for the purchase of 300 J-20B with WS-15 engines for the Chinese air force. Their deliveries are expected to take 5 years. Currently, Chinese units have around one hundred J-20As at their disposal.

A report issued by the American Research Institute in early April stated that the satellite photos taken in early April showed that the Chinese Air Force had already received the second brigade of J-20 stealth fighter jets, and it is speculated that there are currently about 100 J-20 stealth fighters in China.

According to the production capacity of Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, another 200 J-20s are expected to be equipped to the Chinese air force within five years, and an average of about 50 of them will be produced each year in the next five years, reaching a total of 300 fighters, which is basically consistent with Jin Canrong’s view.

In the face of the suppression of 500 fifth-generation aircraft in the surrounding areas, in the future, the demand for J-20 of China will be about 400 to 500, and it takes about ten years in total to produce them.

As for the engine, a J-20 fighter with WS-10 “Taihang” engines was unveiled earlier this year. Prior to this, J-20 fighters had been using Russian-made AL-31F series aero engines.

It is reported that the WS-15 engine has entered the flight test stage. It is speculated that the life of the WS-15 engine is nearly 8500 hours, the maximum thrust is expected to reach more than 90 kN, and the maximum afterburner thrust can reach 150 kN, which is at the same level as the F-119 on the F-22, the world’s first five-generation aircraft, and is the guarantee for J-20 to achieve supersonic cruise and super-conventional maneuvering.

8500 hours,

If true, that's amazing progress

Exciting times!

Translated from Japanese:
Rumor has it that the J-20 (the aircraft with the yellow primer) did Pugachov Cobra in Chengdu. I actually saw the J-10 TVC Cobra at the 2019 China International Aviation & Aeronautics Exhibition, so I was thinking about the possibility of this, but I'm curious about the engine. Is this also a vector nozzle version of the WS-10? Is it a WS-15?

The guy claiming he saw it has dubious credibility at best. He didn't post the video in the first place and is just "teasing" that he will.

I call bullshit. Is there a J20 prototype flying a WS10TVC or WS15TVC? Probably. Does this guy have video? Probably not.

more fantasy rumours and fake news, once Russia has made Su-75 and is going to powere it by Type 30 and has no canards the chinese want to be in the spotlight.

J-20 as well as J-10 can not make the cobra without TVC nozzles, LEX create much powerful vortices, but not only that, canards tend to stall before the wing, the whole design to do Cobra needs Hysteresys to be done very quickly and keep yaw stability at high AoA.

here is computer graphics showing a J-20 propaganda doing the Cobra.

The chinese propaganda machine claims J-20 is ultra light around 14000kg a which is an stupid idea, since even with additive technologies most materials used in aviation are carbon, Aluminium and titanium, so most aircraft weight around the same, specially since cabon is only used as surface material, structuraly titanium and Aluminium are still needed. so the J-20 most be at the most 19000kg if very light and SU-27 makes its high AoA return thanks to aft tails, canards are not efficient because the main wing should develope hysteresys since if it stalls the whole aircraft will pitch up specially since the lack of aft tails will reduce a pitch down force and that means lift behind the center of gravity, not ahead of the center of gravity to force the nose pitch down

Possibly 300 J-20 with WS-15 by 2026!

Gen. Ken Wilsbach, Pacific Air Forces commander, told CNN: "We have never had this many Raptors deployed together in the Pacific Air Forces area of operations."

Experts fear China will blast the United States off the top spot to become the world's top economic and military power within the next decade.

Defense analyst Carl Schuster said: "The Pacific Air Force is demonstrating that it can deploy as many or more fifth-generation aircraft into the theater on short notice than (China) currently has in its entire inventory."

Normal deployments feature six to 12 of the jets, Schuster said.

America has around 180 F-22s; China has up to 24 fifth-generation fighters.

Former Australian air force officer Peter Layton said: "The US is actively practicing the deployments it will make if there is a major crisis or war.

"The US is taking China very seriously and is developing its force posture and training its forces to be able to quickly move into position."
