It's official: Men look at women's breasts first

Women often say that men tend to ogle at their breasts and their face is the last thing they notice, and now a scientific study has found evidence to prove them right.

Scientists have found that almost half - 47 per cent - of men first glance at a woman's breasts. A third of the "first fixations" are on the waist and hips, while fewer than 20 per cent look at the woman's face, reports the Daily Mail in UK.

In fact, breasts are not only the first thing men look at, they also glance at them for longer than any other body part, revealed experts. Many believe that the reason behind such male tendency could be evolutionary, as women with larger chests and slim waists - such as Jennifer Hawkins, Lara Bingle and Rachael Finch - have higher levels of the female hormone oestrogen, indicating greater fertility. But the researchers conceded that there could be a more prosaic explanation.

"Men may be looking more often at the breasts because they are simply aesthetically pleasing, regardless of the size," the Daily Telegraph quoted them as saying.

Subjects tested by researchers from New Zealand's University of Wellington were presented with six images of the same woman, digitally altered to increase or decrease the size of her bust, waist and hips. The scientists recorded which areas men looked at first, the number of times they looked, and how long their gaze lasted, using cameras and mirrors to measure tiny eye movements.

"Eighty per cent of first fixations were on the breasts and midriff. Men spent consistently more time looking at the breasts and also made significantly more fixations upon them than other regions," the study concluded.

It also found that men began to gaze at the "components of the hourglass figure" within 0.2 seconds. The research also discovered that few glances were directed at the arms, lower legs and feet.

Let us not accept everything these news papers say, as TOI has made it a habit of copying articles published on foreign papers.
Perception about human breast differs from one culture to the other. Breast Fetishism in USA culture is well known, where men don't like their wives to breastfeed their own kids beyond a few months, while international average is around 4 years. One official publication from Health department in USA advises women to wean boys early as fathers feel jealous. Breats in USA have been sexualized, more than any other culture. In African culture breasts aren't considered to be sexually attractive, thighs replace them as focal point of attraction, and women have the liberty to roam around bare-chested, while they must keep their thighs well covered.

How is this news? And why do governments give away tens of thousands of dollars in grants to researchers to prove what we already know? Sheesh, didn't the researchers have any men amongst them?

Lol ! Amitkrit got all serious about it.

This is what happens when a nation has too much money in their hands. Why else would someone try to prove the obvious facts ?
Should have just asked me.

Wow that Capt. Obvious needs to be knighted. Breasts are meant to be just that - a natural ornament. Other natural ornaments of a woman include jawline, neckline, the gradient between the chest and waist, and the right amount of muscle or fat on the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and calves.

A man instinctively finds a nicely curved woman attractive because instincts tell him that the woman is healthy to procreate with (even though you're not anywhere close to doing that).

Whoever (the scientists who made this dissertation) thinks that women who wear garments that reveal the cleavage do so for ventilation and not as an ornament need to grow up.

Have I written this article? I just posted it. When in a dilemma, shoot the post not the poster. Why a bad rating?

It is established knowledge that male apes are attracted to female ape's "behind". Humans are one of the first "apes" to walk on two legs and there is a hypothesis/theory that evolution had to compensate for this fact and ergo mating signals in the form of female breasts were created at human male's eye level to gaze at.
