I'm moving posts here to begin thread.
It is first missile of ITCM series, a program different from Nirbhay.
Will include subsonic, supersonic and hypersonic, short, medium and long range cruise missiles family based on one common platform.

Like Prithvi and Agni family.

Extremely important for the future of both our conventional and nuclear deterrent.
One very big and glaring lacunae in our missile arsenal has been the absence of an fully Indian anti ship cruise missile.

It simply did not make much sense that we could develop ICBM's like Agni 5, but could not develop even an subsonic short range anti ship cruise missile.

The Chinese developed their Silkworm anti ship cruise missiles decades ago. Whether they were good or not is a different matter.

The most likely reason for abjuring an indigenous anti ship cruise missile capability was fear of the adverse reaction from Washington.

The Brahmos is a damn good missile but there is room for stealth shaped anti ship cruise missiles. Subsonic cruise missiles are cheaper and can travel further for the same amount of fuel. We need to adopt 5th generation stealth aircraft technology to these subsonic cruise missiles in order to make them very difficult for radars to detect. Both supersonic /hypersonic and subsonic cruise missiles have their own role to play. One need not make the other irrelevant.

Having an successful indigenous small turbofan engine like the Manik will give us the freedom to defy any future technology sanctions. I doubt whether even the Chinese have an fully indigenous small turbofan engine because there were several news reports that they acquired the technology for the same from Ukraine several years ago. And are manufacturing the same under license. I may be updated if mistaken.

We desperately need a range of land attack cruise missiles for use against China. Both medium and long range. The American Tomohawk turbofan engined cruise missile has a range upto 2400 km. An equivalent Nirbhay /ITCM missile should be able to match those ranges and theoretically be able to hit targets deep into Tibet and Xinjiang.

The birth of a range of indigenous anti ship cruise missiles will empower our Navy.

The possibilities seem endless and we can take full advantage of our indigenous GPS system IRNSS to guide our cruise missiles.

RCI was responsible for agni 5,while ADE was responsible for nirbhay,it's the problem of funding of different drdo lab.
Some perform decent and some lag.

I would not assume things to be so simple.
It was an important objective of past US administrations to try to control India's acquisition of vital technologies and capabilities.

The NPT came into existence after India's Smiling Buddha nuclear test.
Similarly the MTCR came into existence after our Prithvi and Agni Ballis Missile tests.

And how can we forget about the arm twisting of the Russian Government led by Boris Yeltsin by the US to renege on the proposed transfer of Cryogenic Engine technology to ISRO. Even though it was for a purely civilian space programme. No country uses cryogenic engines in their ICBM's or IRBM's.

There are many ways to put pressure on Governments. Withholding IMF and World Bank loans. Putting barriers to exports etc. Talking only about economic coercion.
Other means are also available.

In recent times the Indian Governments move for data localisation by the MNC's has been stalled due to lobbying and other pressure.

As far as technology goes the main sensor on an sea skimming or land hugging cruise missile is the Radio Altimeter. To prevent the missile from crashing into the sea/ground. Along with the other sensors like gyroscopes, terminal seeker, terrain matching software etc. And the engine. Saturn Corporation of Russia was willing to supply the cruise missile engine. So how difficult was the technology.

In contrast, is the technology of an ICBM simpler than an cruise missile. We even managed to develop BVR air to air missiles. Many believe it is an extremely complex technology.

There is a suspicion that reasons other than science were responsible for the delay in launching an indigenous anti ship missile programme.
