If an out or court agreement has been reached between the dead fishermen's families and the Eyeties, then so be it.

It is far easier to carryout justice, than doing what is right.

The dead fishermen cannot come back, but their families can start life afresh with the money. Sending the marines to jail will get them nothing.

What a farce. Go to India, shoot a native, pay your fee, no problemo. Have fun.

It is hardly over. The Kerala high court has not dropped its criminal charges.

bhai, India doesn't have bloody money laws, a murder is a murder even if the two greedy wives sold their husband's precious life for a few notes of paper money

these two wives will soon realise their folly

So next time if an actor runs his SUV over some passerby and decides to compensate their family ...Indian law will leave him ? Are jails only for the poor ?

What a bloody farce.

blame the relatives...if they dont want to continue the case then what can others do.
How is this case any different from Raymond Davis then ?

We Indians all had a good laugh when Pakis released Raymond Davis after he killed two of them...maybe Karma is indeed a bitch and has shown us the mirror.

In this case it is not even USA - the sole hyperpower....its a failing economy (one of the PIIGS) that is verge on default that has managed to secure its citizens against the emerging superpower.

pakistan has sharia law, under sharia there are blood money clauses where relatives of murdered person can forgive in lieu of money

Indian constitution doesn't have blood money laws and the murder trial will continue

I hope so. The families may have decided to not pursue the matter. Does the court have the right to prosecute them unless there is someone willing to make the Italians accountable?

lemontree is right. Any poor guy would accept the money. Keep yourselves in their shoes and think. You will come to same conclusion.

that's like issuing license to hunt humans, hunt the poor and give money to their families to escape punishment.

i dont think any poor person will want to be killed for some money, they want to live too.

India charges Italian marines with murder of fishermen

Indian police have charged two Italian marines with the murder of two Indian fishermen.

The marines are accused of shooting the two fishermen dead in February after allegedly mistaking them for pirates.
Italy said that the Indian fishing boat had behaved aggressively and ignored warning shots from their ship, the oil tanker MV Enrica Lexie.

But India said the fishermen, Selestian Valentine and Ajesh Pinky, had been unarmed.
How the hell can they mistake fisherman with fishing nets to be armed pirates.

The Indian government initially said the event had occurred in its territorial waters and that the marines should therefore be tried under local laws.

It recently changed its position, saying that the incident had taken place in international waters and that the Keralan police had had no jurisdiction to detain the ship.

However, Keralan state officials maintained the marines would be tried under Indian law.
