CTTC-Bhubaneswar signs agreement with ISRO
Central Tool Room and Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneswar, has signed an agreement with ISRO for technology transfer and a contract for supply of spacecraft component.
Under the agreement, Indian Space Research Organisation would transfer three types of temperature-sensor technology to CTTC to further strengthen its manufacturing capability, Managing Director of CTTC-Bhubaneswar, S Maity said in a statement today.
As per the contract, the CTTC would supply spacecraft component for next five years for a total value of Rs 23 crore, he said.
Describing as "historic" the tie-up inked on Monday, Maity said the work contract would be executed through CTTC-MSME consortium and would help in developing the manufacturing base of Odisha.
"CTTC-Bhubaneswar is geared up to develop its manufacturing capability to be a reliable and contributing partner to the National Aerospace missions and marching ahead on the path of Make in India Mission," he said.
The CTTC has been supplying several critical components used in satellites and launch vehicles developed by ISRO under the national space mission of the country.
The achievement of CTTC by supplying critical components to Success of MARS mission (MOM) drew appreciation and felicitations from the prime minister's office and office from the Minister of MSME.
Having supplied critical hardware items for Geo- Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, Chandrayaan 1, the CTTC now plans to establish specific facilities to supply some more critical Assemblies and Sub-assemblies to ISRO for various space mission programmes under its expansion and capacity building programmes, said the CTTC MD.
Senior officers from ISRO, CTTC, the state government, CTTC-Aerospace Consortium members and representatives from industries and Industry Associations were present when the pact was signed.
D Gangadhar, Associate Director, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), ISROS expressed his satisfaction over the Quality of components supplied by CTTC, a press release said.

Though, there are Americans too, but they keep themselves away from this.

You know many Indians (many members on DFI (me), even Senior mods like pmaitra and Ray) have colonized that forum in past.
Threads of IAF vs RAF are filled up with superiority of USAF over IAF cuz RAF comes nowhere near.






:finger: Conversations like above one occur at regular bases and if you'll argue further, they will start calling us poor (no matter how fast we're catching up).
Let us post thread over successful launch of GSLV Mk3 in December there. Entire thread will be full of pictures of Delta 4 Heavy and even probably Saturn-5.:rotflmao:
And if GSLV Mk2 launch of next month fails (though I don't want so, nor it's likely), we won't even need to post any thread ourselves about in there.:D
On Topic:
Skylon is as of now way away from reality without ESA (support of NASA can change the destiny though).
But at first, they could make only a micro and mini satellite launcher which can't make them stand anywhere near us.

Japan is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, it's obvious to catch up.
In fact, JAXA could be other ESA if their projects would not have failed. You know, they have already launched missions to Venus, Jupiter and Mars etc. way before us. Japan has penetrated deep in space like US and USSR indeed. But unfortunately, all missions failed (I don't blame them either, they're comparatively newer player with lesser experience and did better than expected).

And for human spaceflight, we have projects to search deep space like ESA and JAXA.
So, sending humans in space will only cement our position in something more advanced than these agencies.:)

The propulsion along with re-usable vehicles key to low cost access to space

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to conduct air-breathing propulsion experiment using its RH-560 rocket fitted with a supersonic combustion ramjet (Scramjet) engine on August 28 from Sriharikota.

According to ISRO Chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar, while the test would take place on August 28, the GSLV-F05 rocket with an indigenous cryogenic engine would lift-off on September 8. A Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will lift off on September 26. While these three missions would take place from Sriharikota, an Ariane-V launch vehicle from Arianespace will put India’s communication satellite, GSAT-18, into orbit from Kourou in French Guiana on October 4.

ISRO is looking forward to conducting the air-breathing propulsion test. The test was to have been done on July 28 but the search by the Indian Air Force and the Navy for the IAF’s transport aircraft An-32, which disappeared over the Bay of Bengal has delayed it by a month. The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, has developed the engines to be used in the RH-560 rocket.

ISRO To Test Scramjet Engine On Sunday

Indian weather satellite launch has now been postponed to September 8.
Chennai: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up to test its scramjet engine on Sunday while the launch of weather satellite INSAT-3DR with the geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV-MkII) has been postponed to September, a senior official said on Saturday.
India's rocket port is located at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh around 80 km from Chennai.
"The launch of RH-560 sounding rocket to test the scramjet (air breathing) engine is slated for 6 AM on Sunday," P Kunhi Krishnan, director of SDSC told IANS.
The rocket will take off at 6 AM if the wind speed is conducive for the launch or it may be launched bit later.
The scramjet engine, used only during the atmospheric phase of the rocket's flight, will help in bringing down the launch cost by reducing the amount of oxidiser to be carried along with the fuel.
Earlier Mr Krishnan had said the Indian weather satellite will be launched on August 28 which has now been postponed to September 8.
Queried about the change in launch plan Krishnan said: "While carrying out the tests there was a technical issue found with a satellite component. It has been sorted out now and hence the delay."
He said the GSLV rocket that would carry the weather satellite INSAT-3DR is fully assembled.
The weather satellite will be mounted on to the rocket in three to four days.
According to officials, the ISRO will launch ScatSat -- a weather monitoring and forecasting satellite -- with polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) end of next month.
The Indian satellite will be a co-passenger to an Algerian satellite.
Both the satellites will be put into different orbits. So the fourth engine of the rocket will be switched off after ejecting ScatSat first. Then after a gap of around 30 minutes, the engine will be switched on and put the Algerian satellite into its intended orbit.

BENGALURU: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is developing a technology that will allow it to transfer humans from one vehicle or spacecraft to another in space.
The immediate goal is to enable refuelling of spacecraft to give them a longer life and transfer other crucial systems to an existing spacecraft, by transporting another to space. Spacecraft docking will allow joining of two separate free-flying space vehicles. Another system called berthing will be used to transfer things from one vehicle to another.
Confirming that experiments on the technology are being done at the Isro Space Application Centre (ISAC), Bengaluru, senior scientist TK Anuradha, project director for the GSAT family of satellites, said: "Isro is experimenting on docking, and there's a lot of work going on in this space. She did not, however, elaborate further.
"At present, some ground simulations are happening at ISAC Favourable results will see us trying this with two small spacecraft launched for the purpose," another senior scientist said.
"It can be used for orbit servicing of satellites, for example, as we operate a huge constellation of them," the scientist said. One major advantage such a technology will give Isro is the ability to enhance lives of satellites by refuelling them.
Imagine a project like Astrosat, with high-end technology as part of its payload that has many years of life. The mission will end once the fuel is over. But With the docking technology, ISRO could keep refuelling the space observatory. "This will also help reduce space debris," the scientist added.
India is yet to become a member of the international space station or have a human space programme in its immediate plan.

We will make our own alone or in collaboration with someone.

Recently, China refueled a satellite in the orbit which gave ISRO inspiration I think.



What I am asking is , as satellite placed in orbit then it doesn't require any propulsion and all its onboard computer and electronic devices are working on solar energy . So why fuel is required ?

But if we will keep refuelling, it will keep working.
Recently, China refueled a satellite in the orbit which gave ISRO inspiration I think.
Why space station got dysfunctional ? And what happens after that ?

Or, a satellite can use a small amount of fuel and still be operational for a very long time.

The propel a satellite, we need force. That force is the reaction to ejecting gases, such as gases ejecting from a rocket thruster.

We can therefore use less mass of propellant if we can make them come out at high velocity:

Successful Flight Testing of ISRO's Scramjet Engine Technology Demonstrator

The first experimental mission of ISRO’s Scramjet Engine towards the realisation of an Air Breathing Propulsion System was successfully conducted today (August 28, 2016) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota.

After a smooth countdown of 12 hours, the solid rocket booster carrying the Scramjet Engines, lifted off at 0600 hrs (6:00 am) IST. The important flight events, namely, burn out of booster rocket stage, ignition of second stage solid rocket, functioning of Scramjet engines for 5 seconds followed by burn out of the second stage took place exactly as planned.

After a flight of about 300 seconds, the vehicle touched down in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 320 km from Sriharikota. The vehicle was successfully tracked during its flight from the ground stations at Sriharikota.

With this flight, critical technologies such as ignition of air breathing engines at supersonic speed, holding the flame at supersonic speed, air intake mechanism and fuel injection systems have been successfully demonstrated.

The Scramjet engine designed by ISRO uses Hydrogen as fuel and the Oxygen from the atmospheric air as the oxidiser. Today’s test was the maiden short duration experimental test of ISRO’s Scramjet engine with a hypersonic flight at Mach 6. ISRO’s Advanced Technology Vehicle (ATV), which is an advanced sounding rocket, was the solid rocket booster used for today’s test of Scramjet engines at supersonic conditions. ATV carrying Scramjet engines weighed 3277 kg at lift-off.

ATV is a two stage spin stabilised launcher with identical solid motors (based on Rohini RH560 sounding rocket) as the first as well as the second stage (booster and sustainer). The twin Scramjet engines were mounted on the back of the second stage. Once the second stage reached the desired conditions for engine “Start-up”, necessary actions were initiated to ignite the Scramjet engines and they functioned for about 5 seconds. Today’s ATV flight operations were based on a pre-programmed sequence.

Some of the technological challenges handled by ISRO during the development of Scramjet engine include the design and development of Hypersonic engine air intake, the supersonic combustor, development of materials withstanding very high temperatures, computational tools to simulate hypersonic flow, ensuring performance and operability of the engine across a wide range of flight speeds, proper thermal management and ground testing of the engines.

India is the fourth country to demonstrate the flight testing of Scramjet Engine. The successful technology demonstration of air-breathing Scramjet engines in flight by ISRO today is a modest yet important milestone in its endeavour to design and develop advanced air breathing engines including engines for ISRO’s future space transportation system.

not just sapce station ISRO seems to be interested also In REFUELING station...

yes solar energy powers the electronics.. but to make scientific observations i think the sats are tilted at various angles, which can be done with onboard fuel.i think some times their orbit needs to be corrected or they need some external force to be in right orbit all the time.. or some time their orbits are shifted and orbit inclinations are also changed to make better and more scientific evaluations... i am guessing..

it will get disfunctional cause the ESA is withdrawing it support to ISS,, their fund and work sahre in maintaining the ISS was significant,without ESA support all work and Fund load will go to USA/NASA , making it really costly for them..
russians are also going to undock there entire Modules in ISS and are planning there own independet space station by expanding it furhter(they have big plans)..

earlier plan was to deorbit it and burn it in atmosphere, but now what i am hearing is that they willl sell it to some private companies, using it for space tourism.

Awesome times are ahead..
