As an Indian rocket is getting ready to put five British satellites into orbit on July 10, officials at the Sriharikota space port are also working on an Indian satellite launch, an official said on Monday.

The Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) succesfully launched five British 'Earth observation' satellites today at 10.20 p.m IST, from Sriharikota(India)....

UK-DMC3A
UK-DMC3B
UK-DMC3C
UK-CBNT-1
UK-De-OrbitSail

The five satellites were launched as part of the arrangement entered into between DMC International Imaging (DMCii), a wholly owned subsidiary of SSTL, UK and Antrix Corporation Limited.
The DMC3 constellation, comprising three advanced mini-satellites DMC3A, DMC3B and DMC3C, is designed to address the need for simultaneous high spatial resolution and high temporal resolution optical Earth Observation.
In addition to the three DMC3 satellites, two auxiliary satellites, CBNT-1, a technology demonstrator earth observation micro satellite built by SSTL, and De-OrbitSail, a technology demonstrator nano satellite built by Surrey Space Centre are also placed in orbit successfully.

The satellites are primarily to be used for imaging and monitoring resources and environment, besides disaster management efforts. These satellites can image any target on the Earth's surface every day. Major application areas include surveying the resources on earth and its environment, managing urban infrastructure and monitoring disasters.

The satellites, together weiging 1439kg, made it the the heaviest commercial mission accomplished by ISRO so far.
The rocket used was India's trusted workhorse PSLV(PSLV-XL-C28) which has so far successfully launched about 78 satellites, including 47 foreign ones, into space.

Stop changing requirements during the development phase. Stop complaining when things are accomplished with at least 5 years delay. Be completely oblivious to said delays. You may then express the same feelings to DRDO as you did to ISRO.

Because Britain does not have it's own platform to launch satellites :p ..

Btw no British media reported this , becoz its there baiszaati as land of snake charmer and rope trick has sent their satellite in space
Complete blackout of this news in british media even though it concerns them. Contrast this with news of petty crimes happening even in remort parts of India reported in international media.
By the way I read this on theregister.co.uk ....the brits in the comments were behaving funny, they say rocket making is nothing big we can easily do it. The real thing is to develop satellites. :bounce:

Britons really have nothing much to show in the 21st century. They have a deep inferiority complex.

Consumer confidence is all time low in "Not so great anymore" Britain...economy is in deflation. British media
wants to hide the achievements of Asian powers like India ...to keep the illusion in its citizens that Britain is still great...to keep the sinking confidence from sinking down further.

Today's news reports say that those Dmc series satellites are for Chinese, made by British and launched by us.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is now aiming for an October-end launch for the Reusable Launch Vehicle- Technology Demonstrator (RLV- TD), a scaled-down model of the proposed ‘space shuttle’. Earlier, the space agency was planning to have the mission in July. K Sivan, director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), said the construction of the space plane portion of RLV-TD is in its final phase at VSSC, Thumba. “Tests are progressing. We are planning to have the launch in the second half of October,” he said. ISRO chairman A S Kiran Kumar, who is due for a visit to VSSC on Monday, will review the progress of work on this mission which is crucial for India’s future in the space race. This mission will be the first of several tests conducted ahead of building India’s own space shuttle. The scale model weighs 1.5 tonnes and will fly up to a height of 70 kilometres before dropping down to the Bay of Bengal. For the first RLV-TD experimental flight, the space plane part will be rigged atop a solid booster rocket. The ISRO chairman will also review the progress of work on the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk-III (GSLV Mk-III) project.
‘UK Satellites in Good Health’
All five British satellites that were put in orbit by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C-28 (PSLV c-28) on Friday night are in “good health,” VSSC director K Sivan, who arrived back in Thiruvananthapuram from the Sriharikota spaceport on Saturday morning, said. At one go, ISRO had placed in orbit three identical DMC3 earth observation satellites, the CBNT-1 earth observation micro satellite and a nanosatellite - De-OrbitSail.
