Isro successfully launches navigation satellite IRNSS-1B

CHENNAI: Indian Space Research Organisation on Monday successfully launched IRNSS-1B, the second navigation satellite among the seven satellites that will eventually constitute the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).

PSLV-C24 carrying IRNSS-1B blasted off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 5.14 pm.

Nineteen minutes after liftoff, PSLV-C24 injected the IRNSS-1B into a preliminary orbit. Later, it will be placed into a sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit (sub-GTO), an elliptical orbit with an inclination of 19.2 degrees with respect to equatorial plane.

Once completed, the IRNSS system will offer navigational services, for both civilian and defense purposes, in India and also 1,500 km beyond its borders. The system is expected to become operational by beginning of 2016.

All the seven satellites will have identical configuration. IRNSS-1B, weighing 1,432 kg at liftoff, is carrying two types of payload - navigation and ranging. Navigation payload will transmit navigation service signals to users. It also contains a highly accurate rubidium atomic clock because keeping accurate time is essential for a positioning system to locate objects without ambiguity. The ranging payload consists of a C-band transponder which helps in accurate determination of the range of the satellite.

This is the 26th flight of Indian Space Research Organisation's primary workhorse, Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). Isro used the 'XL' configuration of PSLV to launch IRNSS-1B.

'XL' configuration allows higher payload and can inject satellites into higher orbits. The version was earlier used for critical missions like Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbiter Mission and the first IRNSS satellite IRNSS-1A.

What is the range and mileage of PSLV ... :balle: can it be described to be a ICBM if there was a war-head on it. I saw some figures of 6,000 km range on the current IRNSS-1B mission screen shots.

(Really want us to test a ICBM of 10,000 km+)

A question to the Gurus who might answer?

At the 6 min 10 second mark of the video, the space craft seems to be deviating from the flight path. Is that normal? Or what is it??

I noticed it during the live launch and thought that the launch would be a failure. So glad I was wrong.

Trajectory, my dear sir, trajectory is not a straight line !!

PSLV is the hidden SURYA ICBM in reality and this is a open secret. Even our Missile man, who was our Ex-President Shri A.P.J.Abdul Kalam said, if the need arises then within a short notice PSLV can be converted into an ICBM.

i think GSLV is the hidden ICBM it has longer range but why we need a 10000+ range missile we don't have any oversea disputes have we???

Preparations on for
Commercial Rocket Launch

CHENNAI: Preparations are on at the rocket port in Sriharikota for the launch of a commercial rocket that would carry five satellites -- two from Canada, and one each from France, Germany and Singapore, an official said Thursday. "Work on the next launch has started. The rocket launch is slated for last week of June. The rocket will put into orbit a French satellite SPOT-7 weighing around 720 kg," M.Y.S. Prasad, director at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) told IANS over phone. It will be the first rocket launch of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, which will assume charge May 26. The rocket port is in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota around 80 km from here. Prasad said piggybacking on the main luggage will be four more small satellites - two from Canada and one each from Germany and Singapore. He said the total liftoff weight of the rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will be 230 tonne and its total luggage/satellites weight will be around 830 kg. During the 12th Five-year Plan (2012-2017), the ISRO is planning to have 60 space missions. ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan had said the space organisation was working at preparing a business model to partner with industries - public and private - so that they have a higher level of participation in the space sector. The model that the ISRO is looking is for investment, sharing of technology and responsibility and it may take around three or four years to arrive at a model, he said.

submarine launched SLBM of Indian Sub placed somewhere in South Pacific would need 10,000 km range to reach cities of our super-ambitious north-eastern neighbour - just in case !

Kiran Karnik was on this show and he said that having seen so much of the government of India, so much of India, he has never found another Indian organisation with a commitment and integrity to match ISRO's, which is a high compliment.
Thank you. We have done what we thought and what we think is best for the country.
We trust our cryogenic engine , capability to launch heavier satellites now been established' : ISRO Chief | idrw.org

Please pray for other Indian GOI organizations to do likewise ! (Kerela Power )
