Israel has capability to take on Iran: Vice Premier

JERUSALEM : Contending that attack is the best form of defence, Israel has said it has the capability to carry out a military strike against Iran, which had given a call for its "wiping out off the map."

"There is no doubt that the technological capabilities, which improved in recent years, have improved range and aerial refueling capabilities, and have brought about a massive improvement in the accuracy of ordnance and intelligence," Vice Premier Moshe Ya'alon told a conference of military officers and experts.

"This capability can be used for a war on terror in Gaza, for a war in the face of rockets from Lebanon, for war on the conventional Syrian army, and also for war on a peripheral state like Iran," said Yaalon, a former armed forces chief.

Emphasising on the need to strengthen air capability, Ya'alon was of the opinion that it is of utmost importance to "decapitate or blind" an enemy by targeting its leadership or early warning defences.

"As far as I'm concerned, attack remains the best form of defence," he said.

Israel has declared Iran's ongoing nuclear programme an "existential threat" and has also accused it of arming hostile factions, Hizbullah in southern Lebanon, and Hamas in Gaza.

"There is no doubt, looking at the overall situation, that we are already in a military confrontation with Iran," Ya'alon said adding, "Iran is the main motivator of those attacking us."

While Israel has maintained that it will pursue the diplomatic option against Iran and has launched a major campaign to muster support worldwide to impose sanctions against it to convince its leadership to give up on its nuclear ambition, Israeli leadership from time to time have also emphasised that they will keep all options on the table.

Israel had earlier bombed Iraq's nuclear reactor in 1981 and also eliminated a Syrian nuclear reactor in the making in 2007.

Israel stations nuclear missile subs off Iran

Three German-built Israeli submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles are to be deployed in the Gulf near the Iranian coastline.

The first has been sent in response to Israeli fears that ballistic missiles developed by Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, a political and military organisation in Lebanon, could hit sites in Israel, including air bases and missile launchers.

The submarines of Flotilla 7 — Dolphin, Tekuma and Leviathan — have visited the Gulf before. But the decision has now been taken to ensure a permanent presence of at least one of the vessels.

The flotilla's commander, identified only as "Colonel O", told an Israeli newspaper: "We are an underwater assault force. We're operating deep and far, very far, from our borders."

Each of the submarines has a crew of 35 to 50, commanded by a colonel capable of launching a nuclear cruise missile.

The vessels can remain at sea for about 50 days and stay submerged up to 1,150ft below the surface for at least a week. Some of the cruise missiles are equipped with the most advanced nuclear warheads in the Israeli arsenal.

The deployment is designed to act as a deterrent, gather intelligence and potentially to land Mossad agents. "We're a solid base for collecting sensitive information, as we can stay for a long time in one place," said a flotilla officer.

The submarines could be used if Iran continues its programme to produce a nuclear bomb. "The 1,500km range of the submarines' cruise missiles can reach any target in Iran," said a navy officer.

Apparently responding to the Israeli activity, an Iranian admiral said: "Anyone who wishes to do an evil act in the Persian Gulf will receive a forceful response from us."

Israel's urgent need to deter the Iran-Syria-Hezbollah alliance was demonstrated last month. Ehud Barak, the defence minister, was said to have shown President Barack Obama classified satellite images of a convoy of ballistic missiles leaving Syria on the way to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Binyamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, will emphasise the danger to Obama in Washington this week.

Tel Aviv, Israel's business and defence centre, remains the most threatened city in the world, said one expert. "There are more missiles per square foot targeting Tel Aviv than any other city," he said.

Iranian speedboats versus Israeli nukes

6 June, 2010 - Iran is ready for it's speedboat navy to take on the Israeli fleet.

"Iran's navy forces are ready to escort the peace flotilla to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities," said Ali Shirazi of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

"If the Supreme Leader issues an order for this then the Revolutionary Guard naval forces will do their best to secure the ships," Shirazi said. "It is Iran's duty to defend the innocent people of Gaza."

Why Be Scared Of A Dolphin?

The Israeli Navy in the meantime has deployed three submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles to Iranian waters.

The nuclear-armed vessels Israeli Naval Ships Dolphin, Tekuma and Leviathan have previously been deployed to the Persian Gulf according to The Sunday Times of London, and according to the British-based paper, the Israeli Navy has fresh plans to keep at least one of the nuclear weapons capable subs in the region permanently.

Speaking on grounds of anonymity, an Israeli flotilla commander stated, "We're operating deep and far... very far, from our borders."

Another unidentified Israeli Naval Officer said, "The 1,500km range of the submarines' cruise missiles can reach any target in Iran."

Nuke You Very Much. You're Welcome

It has been estimated that Israeli subs can carry as many as 16 Popeye Turbo nuclear missiles, each missile alone is estimated to have the explosive power of roughly half a million pounds of TNT.

An how exactly is Israel planning to do that? This sounds stupid not because Israel lacks technology or skills but because Iran is a huge country---literally. To say find nuclear plants of Iran within their territory plus attacking military installations as well as defending against Iranian fighters is something it would need a base either on Iranian border or send in some marines, take over a base and build one for itself. It is virtually impossible from military perspective for Israeli fighters to fly, bomb and return.

Apart from this, considering the recent warming up of ties with the Iranians by the Turkish government, I would be expecting a multi-front confrontation on Israel's part. Tel Aviv is skilled and has some of the best pilots; but Iran is not Iraq's size.

Wrong, Israel and America are the most menacing countries of this world.

Iran never killed thousands of innocent civilians, but Israel and America both have.

UAE ambassador to US: 'Bomb Iran'

The United Arab Emirates ambassador to the United States said Tuesday that it would be worthwhile to bomb Iran's nuclear program, The Washington Times reported.

Ambassador Yousef al-Otaiba reportedly endorsed the military option if sanctions do not stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

"I think it's a cost-benefit analysis," Otaiba said to an audience in Aspen, Colorado. "I think despite the large amount of trade we do with Iran, which is close to $12 billion "¦ there will be consequences, there will be a backlash and there will be problems with people protesting and rioting and very unhappy that there is an outside force attacking a Muslim country; that is going to happen no matter what."

"If you are asking me, 'Am I willing to live with that versus living with a nuclear Iran?,' my answer is still the same: 'We cannot live with a nuclear Iran.' I am willing to absorb what takes place at the expense of the security of the UAE," Otaiba reportedly said, in response to a question after a public interview with the Atlantic magazine. His remarks shocked many in the audience, The Washington Times reported.

John R. Bolton, former US ambassador to the United Nations, told The Washington Times that Otaiba's comments reflect the views of many Arab states that "recognize the threat posed by a nuclear Iran."

"They also know — and worry — that the Obama administration's policies will not stop Iran," he told The Times. Arab leaders, Mr. Bolton said, regard a pre-emptive strike as "the only alternative."

Otaiba "was thus only speaking the truth from his perspective," Mr. Bolton reportedly said

Iran is better than every Arab country. I wish some country bombed Saudi Arabia or UAE.
What would the Israelis do if someday the Saudis acquire nukes probably from Pakistan?
