Iran has no legitimate quarrel with Israel. Until 1979 both countries were quite friendly. After their revolution they started their one sided enmity with Israel through Hezbollah and other proxies, when Israel said and did nothing to Iran. They have constantly been escalating against Israel for no rational reason, just to get street cred with sunnis who will hate them regardless.

This whole mess wouldn't be possible without Iran and Qatar through their proxies and funding, against a country that didn't threaten them.

Shah was one of Israel's biggest allies in the world although he did have a dislike for the far-right zionists. During the oil embargo, Iran was the only country in the region that continued supplying oil to US, US naval ships and Israel. Nixon in his book mentioned something that resonates with us Indians, he in one of his meetings with the Shah, the later was astonished that there were jewish americans even jewish politicians in the US who were against Israel and couldn't understand why. Btw, everyone's talking about the BMD and AD that we need after looking at this incident, but I'm more worried that we don't have the massive numbers of missiles and disposable drones to do this. Certainly nothing in the 2000 km range. We have maybe 1000 brahmos, and that's it. Otherwise it's only our fighter jets that can deliver this type of firepower at range, risking the planes and pilots.

We don't need long range for pakis, but we do need it against PLA in Tibet.

An additional theory of mine regarding the Armed forces, is that post 70s, there's been way too much soviet influence and too little western influence, until very recently. 71 was the last hurrah of the classic British Indian Army officers who had solid ww2 experience and continued training with the Brits till the 60s. After that, the Tactical culture of the three branches steadily degraded to a mix of Desi, soviet and partially western.

Clear example is that the British Indian Army vets never let the infantry fall behind western infantry when they were in charge. Despite India's meager finances then, they made sure Indian infantry was at par with American and British infantry till the early 80s. But when the upper echelon became purely Desi, that's when you started seeing a clear lag between us and western tactics + equipment.

One of the core mythos regarding the Indian Armed Forces is that while the majority of our equipment is Russian/Soviet, our tactics and training are western. I find this hard to believe.

Locals were tired of the shah's authoritarianism, and there was a communist-islamist pseudo alliance waiting at the wing (sounds familiar?). Locals gullibly supported this takeover, especially the rural Iranians who were more religious, mixed with naive commie urbanites who thought their side would prevail, thinking of good old Mosaddegh days.

Once the revolution was done, the islamists ruthlessly decimated their former communist allies and made the country a theocracy, with even worse authoritarianism and abuse than the shah, but without the economic growth.

And characteristic of a theocracy, they put ideology before national interest, primarily by going after the west and Israel, diverting money to proxies, and taking their country on a belligerent path, leading ultimately to the current situation. Overall they completely derailed themselves after the revolution. They would have been a first world country right now has the monarchy remained and they maintained good ties with the west and Israel.

Now you tell me how was Israel threatening Iran in any way that justified their proxy war and obsession with Israel? Who initiated aggression between the two? Why is Iran supporting hesbollah? Why has Iran made its primary foreign policy objective to wipe out Israel?

There is so many theories going on that it's really hard to keep on. So, the latest is that Iran just wanted to show their power. But don't want to get a blowback from Israel. Whereas I am seeing mullas all around the world are celebrating that their mulla biradar has the guts to do something about their filistini cause right under the nose of suppa pawa Murica.

But what exactly did Iran showed that their latest missiles are pretty much useless. I am not only hearing about their missiles being intercepted but also malfunctioning. Yesterday saw a drone caught up in a electric wire. And today saw several videos in twitter that the missiles malfunctioned. Forget about within Israel, forget about Syria or Iraq they couldn't even leave their own border aka Iran. And crashed in villages.
