But that's the genius of it. Muhammad said he is the last prophet and Quran is the final word of God. Nothing can be changed and hence no new prophet or book would be accepted. That's the biggest impediment in any reform of Islam. That's the reason why even Ahmadiyyas are persecuted (their main guy claimed to be the new prophet or something) despite being Muslims.

The writer of Quran himself left Islam. While Muhammad dictated, Abd Allah ibn Sa'd wrote down his revelations and soon realized that Muhammad is just fabricating things.
He eventually left Islam and Muhammad ordered his followers to murder him as this guy challenged the prophethood of Muhammad.

Never in the history of any religion we have seen that the scribe himself who wrote the holy text left that religion except Islam.
