The world is divided between supporting or opposing Israel.
The world has been divided into two blocks by the HAMAS attack on Israel on October 7th. The dead 1300 Israelis is a non issue now; what the world is watching is the bombing of Gaza Strip. While all the Western world, including India, support Israel and its retaliation, the Muslim world, including Russia and China, have come out supporting Hamas, the ruler of the Gaza Strip. One can understand Russia's opposition as it is fighting an anti-West war in Ukraine and China for similar reasons in the East.
The world was stunned by the October 7/8th shootings, but it seems that the Muslim world celebrated that attack. They were overjoyed in Gaza without being aware that a retaliation is coming.
Nobody, had anticipated that kind of attack which overwhelmed Israeli border defenses. There were no electronic media, no newspaper reporters, etc., to report on the dead Israelis. They arrived a day or two late. A few photos of 200 dead Israelis in the open air concert were flashed to the world. Photos of dead children in homes were also flashed, but no major hysteria resulted.
There was a lot of sympathy for Israel. Worst of all, HAMAS kidnapped 200 or so Israelis to negotiate the release of Palestinians from Israeli jails. When the Israelis professed retaliation, and rightfully so, the electronic and print media were full of possible details. And ten days later, when the Israeli retaliation phase 1 began, the media went out of their way to flash and print photos of the damage done by aerial bombing. It wasn't unexpected. The HAMAS has hidden itself in underground tunnels underneath civilian property or other civil structures, such as hospitals.
Day after day, we in the West saw this uncontrolled media campaign. The world's Muslim sensibilities were being inflamed. Photos of damaged/fallen buildings in Gaza were all over. The gentlest in the West felt a bit of pain during the air bombing, but it was the promised retaliation.
A Muslim majority in 49 countries and a tiny 7-9% in Europe came out to support the Arabs/HAMAS. They held huge demonstrations against the bombing, but no sympathy for the dead Israelis. That is where the divisions in the society became apparent. The West, for whatever reason, permitted these unprincipled demonstrations except in India, since India had faced a similar Muslim terrorist onslaught on 26/11 in 2008, it was not possible for India to support HAMAS terrorist actions.
Israel and Arabs may never be able to fix the breach that occurred on October 7th. What it has done is that the gap between Muslims and Westerners has also become apparent. Repairing it would be a long drawn out job.
