Air India has cancelled a Delhi to Tel Aviv flight scheduled on October 7 and the return flight as well after the Hamas terrorist group attacked Israel on Saturday morning.

"An Air India Flight from Delhi to Tel Aviv on 07 October 2023 and the return flight AI140 from Tel Aviv to Delhi has been cancelled in the interests and safety of our guests and crew. This is a key moment. Israel’s response will determine everything - whether the whole ME will be in another war like the Yom Kippur war but a change in strategic allies. This is really a Russia+Iran versus the West+Israel+Ukraine. It is part of a bigger theater.

You're right- it does put Putin on a very sticky wicket. Israel has adopted a finely balanced position on the Ukraine question, steering clear of 'strongly' condemning Russia or providing Ukrops military support despite pressure from Unkil Sam. At times, it has also criticised Ukrops for whitewashing right wing elements with Nazi associations within the army/government. Israel is not very popular among ordinary Russians and there is a lot of latent anti Semitism in the country in common with most of Eastern and Central Europe. Iran has also proven to be a reliable ally for Russia during the Ukraine conflict at a time when even China has been reluctant to come out openly in Russia's support.

However there is a very wealthy and influential Jewish community in Russia as well as a very vocal, politically active and in many parts pro Russian Soviet Jewish diaspora in Israel, who Putin would be hesitant to antagonise.

My guess is Putin will try and do an impression of Vishwaguru on Israel, trying to dodge the question as much as possible and, if forced to take a position, appealing for peace, restraint etc etc from all sides.
