they are taking a risk. if they succeed, they will have one less adversary(either eliminated or degraded) to deal with. right from day 2, Israel is saying this is going to take a long time.

losing 2000-3000 soldiers for a future where one of your enemies is permanently disabled/destroyed is a trade any country should take. 2000 people is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, it will open a lot of political and diplomatic avenues when your enemy is destroyed. there are many times more people who have died in terrorists attacks in the last 3 decades in india. I would take that trade. and when ever we are going to take back POK or destroy Pakistan as a state, I would take that casualty or even the casualties suffered by the russian/ukrainian forces in the current russian-ukrainian war.

There are lot Iranians here they come here as students and drive around in imported cars all night, it is a run away destination for them. This is a personal expereince, you cannot go around Richmond town during muharram unless you want to experience the smell of blood. Few years back there was an incident where a Drunken Iranian girl started abusing traffic police for asking her to stop. It was all over the news.

Damn, this is news to me. My college used to be a stone's throw away from Richmond Town. Our circle used to hang out in and around that area, MG Road, Church Street, Cubbon Park quite often. Ground invasion is actually not the smart tragedy here. The better strategy would be to keep the Seige and bombing of Gaza going, while taking out all the leadership and financiers outside. Systematically go after the propagandists, oil barons, bankers, and hamas leaders who made the attack possible, and are giving diplomatic and propaganda cover, in the name of Palestine. Include all adult family members as part of the target list. This is the only deterrent.

The hamas leadership and by extension Muslim brotherhood love the prospect of a protracted ground war in Gaza.
