Israel, i am afraid, is living on borrowed time. They either have to become 4x-5x their current size both in land and population or prepare for a day when the barbarians from all sides will be at the gate. I think in another 50-75 yrs we will see Israel seize to exist unless something dramatically changes in the ME. As US weakens internally, so will be its will to support Israel.

Most western societies in Europe will be overrun by the peaceful womb in a few decades and the Jews will be persecuted again. So, they have a choice to deal with the problem now while the demographics are still in their favor or kick the can down the road to deal with it in a few decades and risk it big time. Most European countries which now stand solidly with Israel would have turned "green" by then and unquestionably support the ummah cause.

That's what they tried doing for almost 2000 years despite genocides, pogroms, discrimination and constant threats of violence. Hiter's rise in Europe and the overall indifference of the west during holocaust was enough to convince them they needed their own country. Although i think jews would have been better served by carving up parts of axis Europe after the war as the new jewish land but Israel was supposed to be the "promised land" and here we are.

Western leftists and those against Israel always blame Israel for rejecting the "two state solution" forgetting that Ehud Barak was willing to agree to that but the Palestinians and the Arab states rejected it. Instead what Israel got was the 2nd intifada. When you go around marching on the streets of major cities shouting "From the river to the sea..", you clearly are calling for Israel to be erased from existence and not a two state resolution.

Their religious identity is tied to the land.

If they give up claim on land which has deep roots to their religious identity, why remain Jewish at all?

Might embrace some other faith and move on.
