The Russians consider that the war in Ukraine is over. They believe that the remaining territory they covet can be obtained at the negotiating table. The Russians never wanted to control the whole of Ukraine, only the eastern regions. This has now been done. All that remains now is to make the Ukrainian leaders understand that the game is over and that it would be better to sit down around the negotiating table and formalize all this and lay down the framework for Ukraine's future status. Military neutrality is a non-negotiable condition. Poroshenko and Zelensky will have a hard time explaining this to their citizens. To tell the truth, I'm not worried about them, they'll be safe in the West.

The counter-offensive has failed to win back any territory, and winter is approaching, so with or without additional weapons from the West, operations will be frozen until next spring. If by then no formal agreement has been signed, it will only be because the moronic American and European taxpayers are stupid enough to agree to fully fund the government of a third country. Why should that bother Putin?
