As I was expecting, this war isn't going to be easy.
1. Israelis aren't fighting a proper conventional army.
2. They are fighting a invisible enemy.
3. A enemy that can pop up at any place and anywhere. They can hit and disappear.
4. They are fighting at the time and place of choosing of the enemy. Enemy is entrenched, prepared and confident. They have gamed this along with stocked up all kinds of weapons and resources.
5. They are fighting away from home and in a extremely hostile territory.
6. The system of tunnels have turned it Gaza into a death trap.
7. The enemy is hoping for large scale civilian casualties so that they can parade those pictures, videos and after few months, international pressure will mount.
8. Enemy doesn't care about 5k or even 10k or 20k civilians dying. It will strengthen the resolve of the populace. Genocide isn't possible in modern age. Mass migration etc might bring other middle east countries into war or destabilize the entire middle east.
9. Bombing buildings will accomplish nothing. Hamas has probably gone underground and waiting.
10. Israel is surrounded by hostile countries. If Israel ground force gets bogged down in Gaza, then the mainland might be exposed to attacks from other countries. US might be there but I don't know if they are willing to commit ground forces so close to presidential elections.

Lastly, its going to be a long protracted affair. The best way to win this is to depopulate the entire region by forcing the population into sea or into Egypt. Then bombing anything that's left behind, smacking anything that pops out of those tunnels.

The Defence minister have already said that he is dissolving the Armed force courts or what ever and Israeli soldiers are free to do in their power ..so they have nothing stopping at the moment. they can decide on the spot how much barbarism need to be returned.

As for chemical weapons et all goes, think that's already happening. Gaza is razed and next is ground assault. They will send the remaining to US / europe to annexe from within ...
