I just think that tanks have started to become obsolete in modern warfare. Even in Ukraine, all it has shown is that tanks are a good way to die a horrific death while being trapped in several inches thick metal armour. But hey, I've not been following warfare anywhere near as long as some of you guys did so I'm curious to see what you think of my conclusion.

Tanks were always being lost at high rates, whether it was ww2, 1965, 1971, or the arab Israeli wars. Soviets lost 30,000+ tanks in ww2. Israelis lost half their tank fleet EACH time in 67 and 73, even while winning. India erased entire armored regiments from the paki army in 65 and 71.

Tanks were always meant to be used in large numbers with a high attrition rate. It's only during the gulf War that people got a wrong impression of tanks that they're very hard to destroy and lost only in small numbers

Tanks are meant to be spammed onto the Battlefield to support the wider ground operation, and pummel enemy positions while taking punishment and losses themselves. In that regard, the Russian army and the US army are the only ones which have tanks in appropriate numbers for a real war. (The Americans have 8000+ Abrams in storage).

More than Russia, I'm thinking this is China's game. Now NATO will have to focus on Ukraine, Israel and South Korea (if the rumours are to be believed), which would stretch them too thin to defend Taiwan. Also, realistically, China has more credibility and geopolitical capital left thanks to current circumstances.

Iran is a big country and it has formidable war machine.. US will not get free hand to target any strategic assets without heavy retaliation on their military bases.. They are already stretched thin. unless they are ready to reveal their cards by using some super secret tech weapons which world does not know about. stealth alone wont allow them to acheive their goals.

Eh, their armour was never the best, because it only had to be better than surrounding Arab states, all of whom were import guys (still at several point it was worse).

Currently, they have a poorly armoured tank for kinetic warheads, but Palestine doesnt have tanks so they dont care. For missiles its well armoured.

Both Russia and China have a common interest to trap the West with a major conflict. If it goes to the frontier of Iran, be it terrestrial, maritime or aerial, that would be the moment where either the West or the Russia/China bluff will be called out, because one of them is bluffing.
We will get the answer once the ground is completely cleaned in Gaza. Untill then, be patient and dont take any bet.
