ISI hired men to kill Indian Consul General: Afghanistan

Afghanistan National Intelligence Agency spokesperson Lutfullah Mashal has said that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) hired two men to kill the Indian Consul General of Jalalabad province.

Mashal said the two men confessed that ISI hired and paid them to kill the Indian Consul General.

"Well, these two guys have very clearly confessed that they were hired by ISI, they were paid by ISI and they were promised that if they killed the Indian Consul General, they will be paid 1.20 lacs, which is a big amount of money in Afghanistan," said Mashal on Thursday.

The two attackers, who were planning to assassinate the top Indian official were nabbed by the Afghan Intelligence agency earlier and were identified as Sher Zamin and Khan Zamin.

The attackers in their confessional statement to the Afghan authorities named a Pakistani Colonel, who is believed to be the mastermind of the whole plan. "The person, whose name these two Afghans have given us is Colonel Noman, who is called to be the ISI's chief officer in North-West Frontier Province," added Mashal.

According to the Afghan Intelligence spokesperson, the two assassins are now in their custody. "They were planning to attack the Council General and kill him and if they do not succeed then they will plan some IEDs or bombs or remote control mines on his way. But fortunately before they could succeed in their plan, our agency, the Afghanistan National Intelligence agency, arrested them," said Marshal.

"These two guys are in our custody. They have admitted their crime and they have told us that they were hired by Pakistani intelligence services to kill the Council General of India in Jalalabad," he added.

The Afghanistan authorities also seized two AK 47 rifles and explosive from the two militants.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Kabul, held talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on wide ranging issues including militancy and India''s assistance to the war-torn country.

At a joint press conference with Karzai, Dr. Manmohan Singh expressed his concern over a report, which said the Indian mission was the target of a terror plot in Afghanistan.

Showing his concern, Karzai said that the earlier attacks on Indian missions in Afghanistan were tragic, unfortunate and acts of terror.

Still how many more proof is required to show that ISI & Pakistan army is a rogue element.. Why not enough power is given to RAW establishment.. I seriously doubt whether such establishment exists in INDIA:mad2:

We say our defence establishment is not in a position to fight a war with Pakistan in case if we go for covert or surgical strikes... But our modernizing our defence forces will take another decade by that time they would have got all powers & weapons required for retaliation.. Not to forget their rapid increase in Nuclear arsenal...

Why can't we use 'non-state actors' to neutralize the likes of Dawood and Saeed in Pakistan?

Is it that tough or our leadership lacks the will to do it? This 'we-don't-care' attitude of GoI is harming us in a big way.If we can't even eliminate our enemies, who are sitting comfortably in karachi bunglows, what kind of regional power we are? What kind of super power we aspire to be?

I would like to say Mr. Prime Minister that economic progress only won'y make us a regional or a world super power. If economic progress goes hand in hand with military progress along with firm political will to destroy our enemies whoever or where ever they are, only then we can dream ourselves of being a superpower.

I agree completely. This playing a nice guy and dharma guru to the world is selling us short.
We don't have to wage a war or worry about any collateral damage. Only a handful of scoundrels who can be taken out surgically. We have the capacity, its just the paralyzed GOI and its unwilling attitude.

Pakistan will remain as it is. Their policy will remain same to cut India in thousand pieces. Though we should continue to talk with Pak at same time to have a policy to cut pakistan into atlest two with Balochistan as a separate state. Unkil may already started to think about it. But it may take several years due to the Nuke factor. With all the natural resource in central asia, that policy will fit Unkil's goal quite well. Pak is screwed & ----- from almost all sides and is going for belly explosion. Except China, nobody will think about Pak.

One of the reasons why India does not use non-state actors to create turmoil in PAK like they do to India, is due to international IMAGE and REPUTATION.

India is respected as a democracy that plays by the rules. Despite all its internal issues and corruption and messy politics - India has never stood accused of engaging in Terrorist acts or supplying nuclear technology to rogue nations, or even sponsoring terrorist groups overseas, even though privately some Indians have supported these group like LTTE, etc.

PAK on the other hand has sunk so far to the bottom of the barrel that they have absolutely nothing to lose anymore. With the cover of nuclear weapons, they are willing to do anything under the guise of "non-state actors".

When you go down this road that PAK has taken, which is to use the cover of "non-state actors/suicide bombers etc managed by ISI operatives" - then you have effectively turned your own country into a state sponsor of Terrorism.

The only reason that they havent officially been labelled a terrorist state is because their help is needed in AFghanistan.
It has gotten to the point that even their own people now finally are starting to see PAK for what it is.

If India wants to respond to PAK attacks - it will have to use commando teams like the US did in Abbotabad. Even with all the capabilities that the US can bring to bear on a project like that - it was still an extremely risky operation. It would not be fair to expect India to carry out such missions and the consequences could be tragic.

Using special forces teams to carry out such operations will harm India in a big way. Why? Because Pakistan will consider it an attack on its sovereignty and therefore will retaliate immediately leading to an all out war. The case of US is vastly different because Pakistan cannot take military action against the Americans for breaching its borders even if it wants to. India is on a different platform altogether. The moment the Pakistanis come to know about a special forces operation, they will retaliate.

and MMS, Sonia Gandhi and her prince was busy serving Tawa Machi to these terrorists.... Cricket diplomacy my d#$k.

I remember rascal Shivraj Patil changing cloths 4 times on the eve when 30 people were butcherd in Delhi bomb blast and he wasn't having guts to say that terrorist have attacked Mumbai but rather used word ''Vyakti'' (Individuals) on that day of 26/1. He was more interested in wasting time on making political correct statement but didn't order NSG to board plane in time.

Same is the scene with liberal apologist Congress-I's arrogant politicians like Mani Shankar Iyer who on NDTV (Where all congress I people feel at home) can criticized India COAS for making recent statement regarding capabilities to attack off shores.

Its not Pakistan who has blood of Indians killed in Afghanistan and Mumbai on her hands but this spineless GOI lead by Congress-I.

For some shoddy excuses of long term benefits (Which no one would be young enough to claim) i can see my nation becoming miserably week, pessimist and comprehensibly being bullied.

Who gives a damn to the reputation stuff till majority of the nefarious Pak designs & actions are against India - not the rest of the world. Its not a dog until it bites you, right?
Everyone is looking upto their own house and they'd do business with anyone who suits their interest, regardless of them being a good guy or bad guy.
Americans didn't lend ears to the Indian pain for more than a decade until the blast took off on their own ear drums.
Then they laid seige on a country half way down the world, for more than a decade.

This world is far from a place where being a dharma guru could get you anywhere. Those who had turned a blind eye to Pakistan's endless needling for decades, have no moral grounds to tell us about image and reputation if we hit back someday. We are losing our image and reputation in our own eyes, sitting like pu**ies when the neighbors consistenly hit us, playing with our patience and esteem.

Virendra
