Navy is currently leagues ahead of both IAF and IA. All IAF has to show right now is the 19 crashes in last 19 months.

Indian Army: is perhaps the worst lagging behind both IAF and IN. Dire shortage of officers, low morale, poor protective gear, poor and low grade weapons, logistical problem, shortage of artillery, restriction of a domestic and very capable MBT into induction, no indigenous APC program sanctioned, high frustration and de-moralization cases, low political say in the country compare to any other Army in the world and what not.

Now compare this to Navy that has actually been steadily acquiring latest battle ships, is on the verge of getting 2 carriers (1 100% new and 1 70%+ new), 5 nuclear indigenous submarines and Project 17 class stealth warships. The only hiccup is Scorpene's swindling by French.

IAF: 6 years over no MMRCA fighter selected, let alone inducted. Tejas still in testing phase, Tejas Mk.2 still "work going on", AMCA still in "specifications phase", PAKFA secret, IJT-36 Sitara NO NEWS, Basic prop trainers NO NEWS. IAF has only time till 2012 to prove to the country that it is not fooling around with national defence keeping all promises for the "future".

Paramvir bhai, Tejas is reaching IOC after 2 and a half decades and that too doesn't meet the requirements of IAF. It is heavier than what it should be meaning that the engine power isn't sufficient for it to carry its actual payload during wartime (hypothetically). If this is what the IAF wants its management to be, despite having such impossible rules to select candidates, I don't see where it is going as a force. The IAF is I'd say 80% responsible for this shoddy outcome of Tejas Mk1. Knowing very well that ADA and HAL are slow and inefficient and constantly require supervision for performance and better management, they should have taken aggressive interest in the program rather than leaving it to the bureaucrats in the two agencies.

Tell me, apart from the initial news about government announcing the Tejas Mk.2, how many updates have you heard about the development? The engine tender is still hanging and is ceremoniously linked to MRCA tender rather than acting like proper professionals and getting the engine selected fast and to begin the process.

Taking Army into account, the HAL Dhruvs still don't perform upto their mark according to CAG and Army has no formal complaint against it, swallowing its anger as usual. The other departments are worse and inefficiency and mismanagement is openly visible. The pathetic induction of a very capable Arjun which should be replacing all our T-72s now, saw onl a total of 248 units, with IA following IAF in getting a futuristic "Mk.2". The sarkari dodos will delay this too. What's more, the tender for Artillery guns is scrapped again and again and at this rate, all the suppliers around the world will stop responding if we keep making a mockery out of ourselves like this. L&T asked for sometime to get a brand new domestic artillery system ready, but government rejected it and Army showing its love for foreign maal as usual, won't say a no.

At this rate, I see that we will have to depend on Indian Navy for all our defences be it sea, air or land.

Indian navy focus on indigenous products is paying rich dividend today. They have the smallest share of budget of the three wings so they had to stick to indigenous products as there primary source of weapons unlike airforce & army which prefer imported weapons & now they seems to smiling at it as they are inducting major home grown state-of-art weapons much quickly & smoothly.

Even IAF is currently doing huge overall improvement right from upgrading old Migs to developing new age UAVs (which can be suitable even for high altitude border region of our nation, a tough lesson that IAF learned during Kargil war). IAF have already proved their metal against ultramodern USAF in combined exercise held in India as well as in USA earlier. While many countries have testing facilities of one kind or the other, training of flight test personnel is not often imparted in them. IAF's ASTE's (Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment) Air Force Test Pilots School (AFTPS) is only the fifth such institution in the world. IAF is also involved in many on-going indigenous projects. Building advanced flying machine (right from design phase to manufacturing) is a lot of time cosuming and complicated process; one can take an example of NASA, in its early days since inception NASA failed on number of consecutive ocassions even to launch rockets successfully in the sky !!!! and now see where do they stand in global aviation industry :hail:

Indian navy is certainly acquiring indigenous weapons if not better weapons...which is more important....but at the end of the day....major chunk of our budget is definitely going to IA and IAF....which will restrict IN to acquire better weapons even if it wants....
Actually I think it is the lower budget that makes IN pursue an indeginization program. With home made stuff, IN can get more bang for their bucks - and also support the home industries, which can help them more in wartime.

Of all the Special Forces India have, MARCOS is the most well equipped.

very true....but it also restricts IN from procuring better weapons, make more bases for itself, expand it terms of numbers of personnel[we only have 56000 of them] and platforms....this is serious stuffs for IN if it wants to be a true blue navy....

Guys, I also want to point this out, the IN can get away with slow "indegenous development" of it's capabilities because it does not have the kind of threats facing it as the IAF or IA. Both the IA and IAF has to face-off the PA/ PAF and PLA/ PLAAF both at the same time and as a combination of quality and quantity it is quite a lot. Pakistan has always stressed on maintaining a strong army and airforce - but the PN has always languished. The Chinese also have a VERY strong army (traditionally) and a large airforce - nowadays they are also building up the capabilities of the PLAAF. In comparison, the PLAN is less well developed, except for nuclear submarines. Since China follows the old soviet doctrine of a navy based upon Nuke Subs, it is not surprising. But it also means that the PLAN surface vessels are not true blue water, which means that the IN has very little concern from the PLAN.
The long and short of it,

IA and IAF look less developed/ prepared because the threat perceptions are more serious. IN looks better prepared because the threat perceptions are comparatively minor.

Well that is hardly the subject we are discussing. And even if I were to agree with you, this is nothing to be proud of, for MARCOS did not do a good job during 26/11.

Marcos did do a good job. They were tasked with clearing Trident Oberoi which is a pretty big building and was the worst damaged among all the locations attacked.

They were the first to clear the location and were comparatively faster than what NSG did at Taj.

Yes Indian navy with all its ongoing project seems doing wisest of ventures. Whether its akula or scorpene submarine, arihant or project 17 all are world class. Inclusion of admiral Gorshkov will provide India with power projection capability though in limited means befoer induction of IAC's.

Rest arms forces wings lack in fire power.
at one side our army lacks heavily in night war capabilities with half of its armour fleet night blind. Soldiers are yet to provide with a good assault rifle. Though they are working on F-INSAS program and agni V but current situation led them to a weak point.

On another hand our air force is lagging behind despite of several programmes to strentgen it like FGFA, MCA, tejas, MMRCA air version of brahmos, hercules and a probable selection of apache attack helicoptors. Unforced delays are causing a main concern to already depleted force. Its time to pull his shocks for MOD.

The IN is getting more modernization when compared with our IAF n IA. but our IAF will be most lethal n pace after we get the 5 generation PAF FA n MMCA deal.with in 5 years our armed forces will be potent by acquiring all these things,All these tasks r going in FIFO manner. there will be sleepless nights to our good enemies.

Don't know about "better" but fleet utilization and therefore effectiveness seems better than army and air force
