Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan says Tehran is in talks with Moscow for the purchase of Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jets.

“We are discussing the purchase of Sukhoi fighter planes” from Russia, Dehqan said in an interview with Lebanon-based Arabic-language al-Mayadeen news network on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Tehran and Moscow held negotiations about the Russian-made Sukhoi 30 fighter jets, a twin-engine, two-seat supermaneuverable fighter aircraft.

The talks were held on Tuesday on the sidelines of the MAKS 2015 air show in the town of Zhukovsky near Moscow during which Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari were present, Fars News Agency reported.

In response to a question about the purchase of Russia’s Sukhoi 30, Sattari said, “We spoke about it but we didn’t discuss purchasing them and talks were mostly focused on the technological issues.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the Iranian defense minister said Russia has agreed to start delivering of S-300 surface-to-air missile defense system to Iran by the end of the current year.

Moscow had banned the delivery of the missile defense system to Tehran in 2010 under the pretext that the agreement it signed with Iran in 2007 was subject to the fourth round of the UN Security Council sanctions against the country over its nuclear program.

On April 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a presidential decree paving the way for the long-overdue delivery of the defense system to Iran after Tehran and six world powers reached a mutual understanding on Tehran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.

Dehqan further pointed to the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 countries, saying Iran will honor its obligations.

But, he warned, “If the opposite party reneges on its commitments, we will respond firmly.”
On July 14, Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia – and Germany finalized the text of the nuclear agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in Vienna.

Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.

Will they buy the MKI versions??
Probably SM version which is used by the Russia, MKI has Israeli and French components, but the SM version was derived from the MKI. It'd be a great choice for IrAF.

We are going with the super sukhoi upgrade, it'd be interesting if they'd want that too if negotiation is successful.

I think it is true. Didn't you see leaders of Iran, UAE, Egypt and saudi Arabia were all there watching MAKS 2015 and giving lists of weapons they want to buy from Russia.

There were rumors 3-4 years back also of Su-30 sales but nothing happened. The oil prices are low and Iran can't spend just on fighters. They would want the S-300's first.

The grip of jews is loosening on foreign policy of US as American people are fed up with wars for the sake of jews . Iran deal discussions are illustrative of this shift (loosening of jew-noose around US neck ) Most Americans do not want US to attack Iran..in spite of NuttyYahoo's wish. Every nation has right to defend its citizens including Iran.

Profanities galore , such written expletives being used against an allied country's head of state is uncalled for and is cheap at best . We don't use such words even against our enemy countries let alone our allies. Hope you will dial it down a few notches .
Thank you

Iran is more likely to face hostile Arab forces than Israel and with the increasing clutter of the IADS environment over Arab airspace Iran needs serious upgradation.

Most likely they will have MKV/MKK/MK2 similar versions with improved avionics. SMs are for Russian Navy shore-based units only.

And so it is about to occur....

http://english.aawsat.com/2016/02/a...ense-to-discuss-an-8-billion-dollar-arms-deal
Exerpt:-
In the prospect of intensifying military cooperation between Russia and Iran, Hossein Dehghan, Iranian Minister of Defense arrived to Moscow and instigated deliberations with his peer Sergey Shoygu. Dehghan is also expected to later meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moreover, the agreement on Russia delivering the S-300 (missile system) to Iran is in accord on execution, after the deal being previously put to rest, an approximate 10 years, due to the economic and military sanctions that were imposed on Iran.

Dehghan visiting Russia aims to acquire artillery bulk worth a near 8 billion dollars in planes and military equipment.
In addition, I wonder what would happen to already pressurized Russian economy, when oil prices plummet further with Iran pumping more of it.

Regards,
Virendra

So, as I've posted in Su-30SM topic, Sukoi and Irkut have presented Su-30SM export version Su-30SME on Singapore Airshow this year:
http://bmpd.livejournal.com/1741599.html

It might be some simplified version of Super Sukhoi for IAF based on Su-30SM type especially for Iran.
