This is essentially a repeat of the Great Game played between the British and the Russian empires in the 18th century. The players may be different, but the playground is the same.
We should strive for the elimination of extremist Islam in this part of the world, along with its sponsors and well wishers.

The Afghan people love Indians greatly, so we should hope for their very best and work hard for it.

Neither US nor Russia are interested in complete elimination of Taliban because without Taliban they will have no reason to meddle in Afghanistan.

On top of that Pakistan is ready to sell itself to the highest bidders, facilitating the foreign powers' presence in South Asia. They will continue to add fuel in fire.

Our Afghan policy should have two objectives:
A. Stabilize Afghanistan
B. Throw out foreign powers or at least reduce their influence in our neighborhood

This is one of the fronts where India and China can collaborate.

Taliban is like KKK of Afghanistan and it complete annihilation is difficult, the best case for us is they become a political power independent of Pakistan.

Taliban could be made irrelevant in the long term by supporting the democratically elected govt in Afghanistan. We will need to supply more weapons to them for this to happen!
MORE ARTILLERY AND ATTACK HELICOPTERS!
