Neo-liberal globalists don't compartmentalize. To them, it is either complete allegiance or complete enmity. That's how they colonized the world earlier in different European empires.Due to policies of USA we have lost every influence in Iran and gave it away to China . following article on new developments .

Iran ready to meet India's energy needs, Tehran envoy tells New Delhi | Reuters
someone needs to tell USA to compartmentalize indo pacific and see it separate from policies in Europe and gulf .
This is relevant for the modern US where the neo-liberal, pro-colonial elites rule the country's establishment (not the phony democrat/republican divide), media, academia, intelligensia & narrative.
Trump was an exception and our ties did radically improve under him. But he himself didn't last very long, did he? Sure, there are friendly lobbies there as well that can be called center-right conservatives. Those guys are good and see the potential of a commercially driven but strategic interests kind relationship with us. But they are a minority in US politics.
Till neo-Liberal, pro-colonial globalists control the collective West, there's little hope for meaningful ties with them.
Since 2014, we should have partnered with Ukraine and obtained Antonov An-70's rights to replace our Il-76s instead of going for the C-17 and C-130s before all this shitstorm started. This way we could have gotten a full-blown design and assembly capability in the last 7-8 years for large transport aircraft. It would have given us a significant degree of autonomy.
If not this, we could have gone for the Airbus A400M 'Atlas' to replace ILs. A European option might not have been a strategic one, but it would have kept us less dependent and also gained more goodwill with France.
Now, we are stuck between political autonomy and strategic interests.
