FN-FAL rifle along with AR-10 and other internatonal rifles participated in a competition for Indian Army after 1962 war. OFB selected FAL and wanted to license produce it. But FN insisted that RFI facilities be kept under FN engineer's supervision. OFB got irritated and reverse engineered FAL and added some things from other rifles (which they liked) and developed SLR. FN was very angry and threatened to take India to ICJ court. Nehru got afraid and brought some MMGs and ammunitions from them.

Maybe that is also a hidden reason for them not to sell to us !

No brother
Call me a Conspiracy theorist or whtver
But this runs even deeper than that
Essentially India hatred and Hindu hatred
The westerners have a deep hatred for our culture that they cannot bare to see us proceeding/developing in any manner whatsoever
They'll slap a human rights abuser stamp on our foreheads wherever whenever possible, be it CAA or JnK

The same reason for which they denied us the weapons
Anyway I'll stop my rant I'm going OT

Americunts sell weapons to whichever terrorist groups present on the planet, day before yesterday I pointed out that the M4A1 Carbine recovered from the Kashmiri terrorist was made by FN Herstel USA.

This M4A1 is made by FN Herstal, the very same company that denied India FN SCARs for China operation citing “human rights issues” :pound::pound::troll:.

INSAS With Shell/Brass Catcher
why "brass catching" is so important for IA?

i have seen this many times in training videos and joint exercises...they try to catch the cartridges with that dumb basket or army hats/caps

this is so "collecting bread crumbs" embarrassing... one side you have US soldier firing and flying cartridges like a hollywood flick and on other side IA is worried about catching used cartridges

Quite good
I am sure if a noob Mech enginner can achieve this than OFB can certainly do way better.
I am not so optimistic about local private gun Industry so we should go the OFB way.
Corporatise some Particular Fcatories of OFB and than do massive reshuffling and lay off. This unfortunately will also take some 5 to 10 years.

Ironic is that the initial rifle prototype by ankush kovari (mech. engg. In question) was made in rifle factory ishapore, and showcased in defence expo 2020.

So did this guy just design the rifle and the OFB guys manufactured it?
He designed the rifle. Then took special permission from defence production board. Then manufactured the rifle in ishapore factory on his own, using their existing infrastructure. Showcased in defence expo 2020.

Company was registeted in September 2019. Now he is looking for investors to set up his own factory. Recently started his own website.

why "brass catching" is so important for IA?

i have seen this many times in training videos and joint exercises...they try to catch the cartridges with that dumb basket or army hats/caps

those can be recycled, which is cost effective.
on top of that, used cartidges could be refilled to make low power ones by decreasing the number of granules of smokeless powder. so if some working staff/ civilians collects them, they could start making 7.62 or 5.56 second rounds, which is illegal.

in US, you can buy those rifles, so it doesn't matter if they leave those shells.

also talk bout realities. armies don't work to look cool like some unrealistic hollywood bulls h * t.
army's job is not about looking cool. its job is about national security.

this is so "collecting bread crumbs" embarrassing... one side you have US soldier firing and flying cartridges like a hollywood flick and on other side IA is worried about catching used cartridges
these kind of comments fly by when people who don't know a damn about military stuff post nonsense.

The cartridges are collected just to make sure all the rounds given to an individual are either fired or returned to the Armory. Else someone can steal these bullets and sell them to wrongs hands....Its not the matter of catching bread crumps. But to make sure the bullets issues are not misused.....Why always think negative when you don't know exact reason behind....

its the responsibility of the soldier that fires these. i have a friend, whose father worked as a manager at one of the weapons station during kargil war. even during / in-between an intense war, the soldiers should write into the register, the no. of magazines and cartridges they take from the weapons station. of course there is no need to collect shells during any kind of conflict, however the count of the rounds & magazine no. is extremely important along with the stock no. of the rifle carried by soldier.

there are punishments for different things, including different saluting with and without uniforms.
they will be made to run long tracks for the wrong type of salute.

in the case of cartridges, if you loose, they will help you search for it, but if not found, they will thrash you with huge wooden logs. the other soldiers will beat the crap out of you with large wooden logs as a punishment. of course, the intensity will be less if you are innocent. but if found guilty of selling these cartridges to any civilians, it will be horrible.

this is also one of the reasons, why women are not allowed into frontline combat roles in indian army( don't know about airforce) . they don't train with that much discipline or harshness, hence IA always did not support women in front-lines, until supreme court gave orders. he said.

and further his father(weapons station manager) freaked out:megusta: when some of the soldiers broke into the weapons stations shop floor and literally looted whatever heavy weapons they could find and charged uphill with RPG-22's and carl gustav RCL MK II's to destroy pak army. one soldier was carrying 5 rockets like they were some bananas and ran into the front lines like a madman :bplease:without writing weapons in the register.
it was the responsibility of his father to make those soldiers write they no. of weapons/magazines/mortars/rockets/ rounds they took from that particular station.
now good luck remembering their faces.:troll:

of course no one was punished cuz its was a war. and that too in 1999.

& thats why its better to use your hats to collect these so called " bread crumbs" as one noob :lehappy:was calling these shells as such.
