Sir I believe Excalibur is Insas(5.56*45mm) replacment and Ghatak is AK-47 variants (7.62*39mm).

If so, what is the need of MCIWS.....

We have two guns each for different rounds...

Is MCIWS going to be a game changer.... Though it can fire both 7.62 & 5.56 soldiers will Cary only one type of ammo and the ammo config is set in the base. So what is the point of having same gun to fire different rounds.... while we still have different guns.....

And why do we see so many different types of assault rifles in our Army..

Do we still continue to use different type of assault rifles even after inducting Excalibur, Ghatak & MICWS....

Pls explain....

How gud is 6.8 SPC compare to 5.56 mk262 ..?

Presently Indian Army use 64gr 5.56mm and on request their`s even heavier 5.56mm probably +70gr.

6.8 SPC failed to impress the operators sir in front of 5.56*45mm Mk262, the details i putted in the previous message is about mk262.

When you change the barrel and receiver nothing left in the riffle that can be change to accommodate new rounds, the firing mechanism will remain on its place i guess, still i doubt the effectiveness of the multi caliber idea cause i dont think we need it, Kunal sir please share your views on it..

I have not yet inspected MCIWS in person, Nor had opportunity to talk with the developers.

Will be looking forward to meet with officials when ever their is opportunity.

IA to induct Excalibur as interim assault rifle
The Indian Army (IA) plans to temporarily induct locally developed Excalibur assault rifles into service until it shortlists a 7.62x39 mm rifle for import over the next few years, sources told IHS Jane's on 24 October.

Officials said the IA recently asked the state-run Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) to supply an unspecified 'large number' of prototype Excalibur rifles to conduct simultaneous testing at various locations around the country to hasten the Excalibur's induction.

"Keeping procurement delays in mind, the army has opted to provisionally employ Excalibur for its infantry and specialised counter-insurgency units, which desperately need an assault rifle," military analyst Lieutenant General Vijay Kapoor (retd) told IHS Jane's .

The Excalibur is an upgraded version of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-designed Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) 5.56x45 mm assault rifle, which the army had rejected in 2010 for being "operationally inadequate".

The gas-operated, selective-fire weapon has a foldable butt, a MIL-STD-1913 'Picatinny' rail system for sights, sensors, and bipods. Its polycarbonate magazine is an improvement compared to that of the INSAS rifle, which is known to frequently crack in extreme hot and cold climates.

The IA's years-long efforts to acquire 66,000 assault rifles and licence-build another 200,000-300,000 to meet pressing operational requirements failed in 2015 after none of the competing foreign models - the Beretta ARX160, the Ceská Zbrojovka CZ 805 BREN, the Israel Weapon Industries ACE 1, and the Colt's Manufacturing Company Colt Combat Rifle - were able to meet IA requirements during trials.

These stipulated that each rifle should weigh no more than 3.6 kg and and be able to convert from 5.56x45 mm to 7.62x39 mm merely by switching their upper receiver and magazine for counter-terrorism operations and conventional employment.

Consequently, the IA initially decided to induct Excalibur into operational service in late 2015.

I just observed photos of Excalibur posted by you,and it seems that They have removed Gas regulator and Gas cut-off selector from Excalibur.

Am i right? If Yes then what is the reason behind removal of Gas regulator + Cut-off selector from Excalibur ?

The GSQR of Excalibur does not include launching of Rifle grenades rather using UBGL, that is why no gas cutoff or sights for aiming rifle grenade.

Its perhaps because to make rifle simpler as its usage is very limited by individual solider at field.

But sir UBGL and 40mm's are one of the compulsory equipment in our way of operation, they must find an alternative to fit a UBGL under these new firearms series to support the tactics of the armed forces.

Provision to mount UBGL is anyway there.
Rifle grenades cannot be launched from Excalibur.

The mysterious OFB 7.62X51mm was a variation of Excalibur only :

Its seems like this new MK1C may be AR3, Where AR2 was a Excalibur in 7.62M43, The new phosphate coating is most welcome, As the photo of MK1C took by me was a dummy where as recent one is a real prototype, Which already went through harsh trails ..
