You missed few details..

Its Vikramaditya suppose to sail first with these MIG-29K belongs to Black Panthers, The Black Panther squadron, which Defence Minister A K Antony inaugurated today at the naval air base, INS Hansa in Goa, will operate from the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya (formerly the Admiral Gorshkov), which Russia is expected to finally deliver by December after four years of delay.

--------------------

Not these Migs, If meant other batch of Migs then its different..

No its right thread. When will IAC sail with the MiGs is the right question in the right thread

The context is the launch of IAC in cochin later this year as Anthony said.

India should consider IAC-1 Project as a national project of high importance and should complete it by the end of 2015. Eary 2016 should be used for sea trials for IAC-1. India should also take a quick decision on IAC-2 i.e. INS Vishal whether it should utilise steam catapults or not. Any updates on IAC-2?

I think people are misunderstanding the "launch". Launch means getting it from the dry dock to the wet dock. First launch is when only the outer hull is made. Then internal fittings are done. Then it is pulled into dry dock again for fitting of propulsion unit. Then it is launched for the second time. Then the superstructure is built.

For a large ship like an AC, there would be a 4yr construction period after the second launch, and before the vessel is ready to sail. Then after another year of tests it is then commissioned.

Exactly. Hence my statement wonder when the MiGs will fly on it. Its a question on the delays in the IAC project.

China has Dong Feng-21D carrier killer missile against US Navy Carrier battle groups. The Pakistanis may get the technical knowhow for these missiles and may use Chinese satellites. Does Indian Navy have any strategy to counter these missile if they are used against IAC-1 in case of future Conflict?
I think China will never sell DF21D to any other country.

I really doubt the possibility of the DF-21 being sold to Pak..I dont kno if you have read the earlier post by Kunal Sir, but selling the tech to Pak will be like handing the tech to the US...there will be proliferation which the Chinese cannot afford to allow...if indeed they have developed an UAV guided missile with Mach 10 capabilities...

OKAY China won't sell DF-21D missile to Pakistan due to non-proliferation. But they can secretly transfer technology of these missiles to Pakistan as they have done in the past. To protect our carriers we should have defence destroyers armed with ballistic missile defence system (with the ability to intercept missiles of Mach 10).

Why is world afraid of this missile? We have enough of counters for them including retaliatory strikes. have you ever thought of that?

Launch Of India's 1st Indigenous Aircraft Carrier On Aug 12

India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, lead ship of the new Vikrant-class will be launched on August 12 in Kochi. The ceremony will be presided over by Defence Minister AK Antony's wife Elizabeth. The ship is scheduled for commissioning into service towards the end of 2018.

This picture of an impression of the ship was at a briefing on the programme and other warship projects held today by the navy (which I sadly missed because I was chained to the studio).

The Vikrant-class ship will sport the Indo-Israeli LR-SAM (Barak-8), which will also arm the P-15A (Kolkata-class) destroyers, the first of which are to enter service next year.

INS Vikrant, India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, to be launched on August 12

New Delhi: India will launch its first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, on August 12 from the Kochi shipyard. This will make India only the fifth country after the US, Russia, Britain and France to have the capability to build such vessels.

"About 83 per cent of the fabrication work and 75 per cent of the construction work will be over when the ship goes into water," said Indian Navy's vice chief, Admiral Robin Dhowan.

The rest of the work, including the flight deck, will be completed once the ship is launched, the Navy vice chief said. The aircraft carrier is expected to be inducted into the Indian Navy by 2018.

Admiral Dhowan also said that the 40,000 tonne indigenous aircraft carrier is one of its most prestigious warship projects and unprecedented in terms of size and complexity. It has been designed by Indian Navy's design organisation.

INS Vikrant will have two take-off runways and a landing strip with three arrester wires capable of operating a STOBAR (Short Take Off But Arrested Recovery). The main stay fighters positioned on board would be Russian made MiG -29k fighter jets. The naval variant of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) produced by India is also scheduled to be positioned on the warship. However, it would depend on how quickly and effectively Navy variant of the LCA is produced and cleared for active duty.

While nearly 90 per cent of the body work of the aircraft carrier has been designed and made in India, about 50 per cent of propulsion system is of Indian origin and about 30 per cent of fighting capability of the warship are from India.

"It will be equipped with a long range surface-to-air missiles system with multi-function radar and close-in weapons system (CIWS)," Admiral Dhowan said.

Apart from joining a select group of nations that build aircraft carriers, the major achievement for India has been the ability to fabricate weapons grade steel. "After our initial difficulty in procuring weapons grade steel, our own laboratories were able to crack the code. Steel Authority of India is now producing the requisite quality of steel" Admiral Dhowan said.

The ability to produce weapons grade steel is a big plus since majority of Indian warships will now be produced in India.
