as per wiki, there will be two "Vikrant class aircraft carriers"

Name Pennant Tonnage Laid down Launched Sea trials Commissioning Details
INS Vikrant 40,000 Feb 2009 2013 2014 Conventional-powered STOBAR carrier
INS Vishal 65,000 Mid 2011 2015 2017 Conventional-powered CATOBAR carrier

STOBAR (short take off but arrested recovery)
CATOBAR (catapult assisted take off but arrested recovery)

so we are finally looking out for a Catapult based system soon... thats good & ambitious for the IN... :hail:
I have two questions.
1.INS Vishal is name of 3rd IAC. and 2nd IAC to be INS Viraat.!!!
2. If its CATOBAR what aircraft could IN select?
By that time of 2017-2020 5th Gen Fighters could be flying around...
as F-35 is STOBAR and PAKFA/FGFA could be STOBAR!!!

1. Yes..

2. Anyone from Gripen / Rafale / F-35C..

3. PAK-FA can be made STOBAR as SU-33 already is, But for max payload & takeoff, catapult is the best..

This is getting interesting:

Pipavav Shipyard Limited should construct second aircraft carrier for India

Interesting.

Appears that CSL's modular techniques are not getting implemented any soon. It was supposed to construct 5 ACs in future.

But its good if the IAC program load is shared between 2-3 shipyards.

I dont understand one thing that if India has the another dock of greater capacity then why it doesnt starting the work on IAC II which would save time and I guess some money too.

CSL is building IAC by modular techniques only.

Instead of giving IAC to pipavav or L&T, IN should start with some destroyers or frigates.

Obviously that is because IAC-2 design isn't finalized & so IN is yet to place the order.

Once design is approved, order will be placed & maybe someother shipyard can be awarded with construction responsibility.

Atleast 2 of the 12 Shivaliks are being built by MDL (including 1 complted.)

Its a total 5+7 plan for shivaliks. Maybe construction of remaining batch of ships will be completed by other shipyards.

As far as 15B is concerned, it just got approval for 4 ships. Not sure where the construction will take place, but it'll be appreciably different from current Kolkata class so can be transferred to other shipyard.

It'll be nice to see Pvt & Public shipyards competing for these naval orders in coming few years.

Its 3(shivalik)+7(P17A). P17A will be built in GRSE and MDL.

15B uses the same hull of Kolkata class, it only varies in superstructure.

Agreed, But govt is not willing to give some orders to private shipyards. They will keep giving orders to MDL even it takes 10 years to finish a 7000 ton destroyer. Idiots!!
