If anyone wants to have an idea of which jet will win mrcbf contest, just see this picture. The entrance to the hanger is even smaller than the lift itself. Enough to pass foldable wing MiG 29k and F-18s( i am not sure of length of F-18). Regarding Rafale we have to see how much of the 'wingtip' or wing of Rafale needs to be removed each time one has to get in and out of hanger
Really amateur question.

Why would someone want to sit on an active flight deck and keep attaching and removing wing tips? Who will be responsible if the tips were fitted too loose or too tight?

Indian Navy press conference about vikrant. Explain about almost all major indigenous system developed for vikrant.
Also VCNS clearly said that imported fighter jets are for the interim requirements and they are involved with drdo and ADA for tedbf.

It’s not even about money so much as neither option really works.

it’s highly unlikely both IN carriers will be put to sea simultaneously (other than for some PR and high level exercises). They’ll just flog the ~40 odd MIG-29K to death (sadly this is quite literal). The 2020s and 2030s are going to be a very rough time for Indian carrier history, there will be a lot of tragedy and shortcomings but IN only has themselves to blame for this
Its more to do with the 2 views in the IN. One is of the opinion, that, carriers need to be given priority. Second, believes sub surface fleet has to be given priority. The IN wants both. Question they need to answer is, which first.

Which is why both are technically stuck. Rest is just joomla of giving reasons of why there is no progress.

Even F-18's 9.8m folded looks TIGHT fit...

Insane headache in the name of IAC-1 is developed by short-sighted clowns. :creepy:

If this "Data" about the Lift size of INS Vikrant is accurate then the F/A-18 will fit on the lift more comfortably than the Rafale-M as F/A-18 is having a folded wingspan of 9.32 m which is enough to fit on Vikrants lift. Another advantage for F/A-18 in IN's MRCBF tender for in my opinion.

Being too liberal with the timeline buddy.
We might see another carrier being flagged after 2024 elections. Either that or a Nuclear propelled one in 2030.
Nope. IN hasn’t even completed the design of IAC-2 or even gotten to the fundamentals of what they want- nuclear powered? EMALS?

So at least another 5 years of debating. 2-3 years for CCS sanction after that.Optimistically keel is laid in ~2030, 10+ year build period and you’re into the 2040s. Within a couple of years of IAC-2 being around Vikky will have to be retired (she might not even make it to 2040 if things keep going as they are)

the earliest India will have 3 carriers (with one of them not being Vikky) isn’t until mid-2040s maybe 2050s if they insist on IAC-2 being another single ship class.

It’s over. F-18 isn’t happening despite all the Boeing talking points thrown out there
