Any reason cited for the delay?

In INS Vikrant (IAC-1), a single look-alike tower does both functions. The viewing gallery is also similar and is being built by the same UK company.........

Looks like a British-inspired (still much modern) design, but a choked AC. I'm sure British consultants worked on this project behind closed doors..........so much for indigenous. It's rather Indie-genius, I say!!!!

If you can solve issues by using others knowledge and assistance by giving them some money for the technical assistance then there is particularly nothing wrong in that remember how Americans used German scientist post worldwar or how Chinese bought of tons and tons of ex soviet scientist which were unemployed just for pennies.

But india was always particularly slow in these things because of politics. And import friendly regimes.

Delay in delivery of Russian equipment was reported.
And usual delays found in building first time capability.

Hopefully we learn from this and the infrastructure build through vikrant could help us get build a similar vessel faster next time.

Also rememberer that critical components were written off in an industrial accident. Such specialised equipment took years to reorder and be delivered again.

Not really look at France they haven't build up a carrier since Charles de gualle and yet they are capable of developing a carrier even now.

What matter is institutional capacity. That means codifying all the learnings and mistakes and solutions.( Documentation of all learnings is critical here.)

The other part is skilled workforce. We will retain that as we are going to build modern destroyers , LHDs , huge support ships ( 45 k ton at HSL) etc.

And third carrier will come eventually. It's the size which is being debated. A sister ship of vikrant could always be build. Which will be build far cheaper and faster then 65k ton behemoth.

In fact I propose that navy should cancel it's LHD program of 4 LHD of 20k ton each. And merge it with third carrier program.

Copy the Chinese and build 40000 ton lhd directly rather than 20k ton. Build just 2 instead of 4.

And build a sister Carrier for vikrant.

That way we can merge the budgets and order 3 40k ton vessles together. Bringing economy of scale.

For carrier part contact the french and make vikrant sister ship catobar as Charles de gualle. Install more powerful engine the vikrant. That way it will be far more capable then Vikrant.

That is simply an understatement of the whole procedure. These scientists, no matter Germanies or Russians, they are not working in the vacuum, they need the familiar equipment, the engineers that can communicate and understand their concept and style. All these require money, lot more than just hiring thousands of scientists.

When Americans brought those Germanies, there was not only people on the ships, but also all of German lab/production equipment which Americans dissembled from German factories. Don't forget, Germans were the largest immigration group in USA, there were plenty of American engineers could speak fluent German language at the time.

In the case of Russian scientists, don't forget the whole Chinese industries were built up with assistance of USSR. At the time, majority of Chinese scientists were educated in Soviet universities or trained by Russian professors. Even so, Chinese still paid a big fortune for those Russian labs and factories equipment. The amount was expected to be so huge, Chinese planned to use their gold reserve to support this big shopping. Luckily, the Chinese civilian industries export saved them.

At the least a follow on order of a second Vikrant class is required for the IN (If Vishaal is too expensive). Time for the government to dig deep and really invest in defense.

Oh no, definitely not.... I think u mistook her stern for bow.....let me try clear it up.

While the TDV's bow actually looks like this..

Here's another pic of TDV with Vikrant....

It may be the shape of her stern that caused the confusion...it may resemble the bow of an unfinished LCU in a hazy image, if you don't take a closer look...
