we have only 1 akula , scorpene will only freeze the decline in submarine strikr force ,it will not increase the number of submarine . and what abut the air wing , we do not have enough fighter jets
We are not inducting these IACs tomorrow.
Its gonna take almost decade to have all these 3-4 IACs in active service. Escort requirements will be met accordingly soon.

Follow on order for already dealt 2 AKULAs can be made. 3 Arihants under construction already. Scorpene will be added muscle which might take time.
45-50 MIG29K already arriving. Sea Harriers to stay till 2013. NLCA will take skies soon. N-MRCA already under discussions. We might see F35 in IN colors. Wait till MRCA is finalized. MRCA Winner might be awarded for these Naval MRCA too. Possibility of Naval PAK FA & N-AMCA is not ruled out.

these are still in discussion stage , we all know hoe painfully things go in MOD,with cost overrun and price escalation . even if sea harriers stay till 2013 but how many are air worthy ,yeh we have got 8 of them but in reality only 4 fly , Nmrca will only be decided after IAF does and again the whole buying process will take much time

Its not off-shelf defense shopping, it takes time. Welcome to reality....

IN thinking about acquiring up to eight of the Royal Navy's retired Sea Harrier FA2s in order to maintain operational Sea Harrier fleet.

I think Indian Navy needs to seriously consolidate the number of types it operates. First why does India need both the Mig-29K and (N) LCA??? As for a possible (N) MMRCA it would be a nice addition. (i.e. Super Hornet or Rafale) Yet, is India going at add yet another type??? Personally, I would just go with the Mig-29K's in the short-term then buy a small number of F-35B's and/F-35C for the IAC Carriers.

F-35B/C not good option as compared to Naval PAK FA
and Mig29K is not short term solution ...there are here to stay for at least 20 years

Thats true, already said Too many choices are not good but IN has definitely something in mind.

@ NLCA

Its indigenous effort to develop carrier operating fighter so its not going anywhere. How many numbers it'll consist is different issue but MOD has to start from somewhere to obtain self-reliance in carrier fighters. So NLCA program is here to stay.

@ MIG29K

Its prime fighter from INS Vikramaditya & IAC-1 at least so 50 MIG29K are decent numbers & carrier training will find MIG29K better platform.

@ F35B/C

Its costly fighter but if IN is impressed & wants fifth Gen fighter from its next (CATOBAR) carrier then things might move.

Actually there is lot of speculation regarding F35 & N-MRCA at this point. After some time things will clear up themselves.

Although India plans to ultimately supplement and replace the Sea Harrier with Russian MiG-29K carrier fighters, the Indian Navy expressed interested in acquiring up to eight of the Royal Navy's retired Sea Harrier FA2s in order to maintain their operational Sea Harrier fleet.
