They should have gone for steam catapults, i dont know why they go for ski-jumps. Its a grotesque under use of carriage space. :(

Can Naval LCA's with GE 414 or a Kaveri with 90kn of thrust take off from the Viraat? Is it possible to keep the Viraat relevant until 2025 with a squadron of Naval LCA's?
What morons on the net who compare the LCA with Mirage-2000 dont get is that the LCA is very small aircraft even compared to the small Harrier. It would be perfectly suited for carriers as small as the Viraat. However the issue of wing folding on deck is still not taken up, like other delta winged aircraft such as Rafael the LCA may not be able to fold its wings on deck.

So, how does the M-Rafale solve this problem? Maybe India should get that knowhow from Dassault too ... as a part of the ToT offset for MMRCA.
As for the N-LCA being used from the Viraat - I think the problem maybe in the remaining life of the Viraat. It is already 60 years old and is probably not going to be seaworthy beyond 1218 (65 years old) - when N-LCAs will be ready. Like most of us, I think the Viraat will be ready for retirement at 65. :D

True, that the Mig-29Ks are much better than the Harriers, but Still, the "Toy carrier" name is proper, considering we compare it to modern day carriers like the Nimitz, the CDG or the Liz class ones or even to the Varyag. The Viraat is 60 years old carrying 40 year old fighters and we certainly did not pay $2 Billions for it - no point comparing it to the Gorshky ....
With $2Billion we won't even get a bolt from the Nimitz. The Nimitz is a $6Billion for the carrier alone. Half that money was enough for our carrier as well as air component. Other than that Nimitz is not for sale.

CdG is old too. Varyag class carriers are not available.

Btw, Nimitz is not a modern day carrier, it is also old. But you can see the difference between the US and India by the ships we own.

Gorky is something that can completely dominate PN. That's more than enough for us.

Dont think the M-Raff can fold its wing, it was never meant to fold. I have a better idea of lowering or increasing the height of each aircraft during parking so the wings over lap.

No wonder the USN likes the F/A-18s with their mid-wing design that can be easily folded.

Better now than later when the ship has been commissioned and in service with IN.

It doesn't really expose the level of incident. Did a pressure valve fail or did the whole system explode?

In Russian:
Сегодня случился взрыв на Горшкове! Друг сказал что пробовали заводить двигатели сегодня, не получалось, ну и что-то там давлением разорвало, как он сказал что-то типа выхлопной трубы :).
Узнаю подробности, но верить можно!
Google Translator:
Today there was a bombing at the Gorshkov! A friend said he tried to start engines today, did not, well, something was broken off the pressure, he said something like the exhaust pipe :).
learn more, but believe you can!
Babylon Translator:
Today the explosion occurred at the Горшкове! Each said that tried cranking engines today, not enlightenment, and the sever pressure, as he said that the type exhaust tube : ). Know the details, but believe you can!
Babelfish (same as above):

This is ridiculous. I'm guessing it's not going to arrive in December, is it?

Explosion in the boiler room? Is it sinking or afloat? If it is sinking then it will probably NOT arrive at all - if it is floating, then December is unlikely - maybe 2013 ...

Nice, I think we will have our indigenous ACs commissioned before Vikky arrives!

What an embarrassment.

Wasn't the original ship grounded because of some fire/explosion in the boiler room?

well just canceal the deal and we should russians to return our money back
Not likely - the Russians will not give us ANY money back after having spent most of it on the ship.
The Gorshkov deal seems more and more of a bad proposition. However, whenever it arrives, it would be good to have 2 A/C in IN - for the first time ever.
