strategypage. Lame site..!!!  I never knew i follow it regularly and i have subscribed for it... can i have few examples so that i can stop following this so called lame site
It's fairly substandard. Few sources are ever given and the stories are generally dated and/or statements of the obvious. I monitor it for trends-of-thought amongst the policy-wonk types who write it.

I think India shouldn't sent Vikramaditya to Russia for service anymore. There's a risk of Russia refusing to give it back. Russian Navy needs all the ships it can get right now.

same happened with our Mi-24/25 hinds, when sent to USSR in 80's for upgradeiation, they were sent to Soviet-Afghan were and later after completion of time were handed over to IAF with some bullet hits...

Russia Facing Defeat By Tiny Israel

India has very publically declined the Russian offer to equip the new Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya with the Kashtan close-in weapon system. Kashtan uses two six-barrel 30mm autocannon to destroy nearby anti-ship missiles and has been in service since 1989. India is looking at Israeli and French systems instead. India makes no secret of its dissatisfaction with Russia support for the many Russian weapons already purchased. Then there are the delays and cost overruns incurred when Russia was hired to refurbish an old Soviet carrier into the Vikramaditya.

India already uses the Barak 1 missile system for anti-ship missile defense and Israel is offering a much more capable Barak 8. Israeli stuff is more expensive but has proven more effective and reliable. Israeli tech support is far superior to what the Russians offer.

This is an anti-Russian website and they always come up with wrong information.

I saw her again last saturday. I hope everything is OK with the ship. Why is she not going out to sea?

Don't fret... all carriers spend most of their lives in port; and even if something's wrong, just be glad it's finally in India (where it can be fixed by Indians).

INS Vikramaditya is operationally deployed with MiG- 29K aircraft: Navy Chief

Navy sources said the aircraft carrier has already taken part in one of the war games conducted recently by the Western Navy

India's largest warship -- aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, is "operationally deployed" along with its fleet of MiG 29K combat aircraft, Navy chief Admiral Robin Dhowan said here today.

"The navy has inducted aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya which is now operationally deployed with MiG 29K aircraft embarked and being flown by Indian naval pilots," he told reporters here.

The 44,500-tonne aircraft carrier procured from Russia at a cost of USD 2.33 billion had arrived in India in January this year and is stationed at its home-base in Karwar in Karnataka.

Navy sources said the aircraft carrier has already taken part in one of the war games conducted recently by the Western Navy.

The aircraft carrier, which does not have air defence guns, is expected to get its weaponry for protection against aerial attacks at its scheduled first refit, they said.

Highlighting the list of capabilities and platforms to be acquired by the Navy in the near future, Dhowan said the first indigeneously built aircraft carrier christened INS Vikrant being built at the Cochin shipyard, will be ready for trials in 2017 and for delivery by 2018-end.

He said the force has already inducted nuclear attack submarine INS Chakra, the P-8I long range reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft along with the Shivalik class frigates among others, he said.

Defence News - Russian experts inspect INS Vikramaditya
.
.
A Sevmash-led delegation comprising
of representatives of Rosoboronexport,
Nevskoye PKB, and Salyut inspected
the INS Vikramaditya on the invitation
of the Indian Navy, Morskoi Vestnik
reported on its website.
The Sevmash delegation was led by
General Director Mikhail Budnichenko
was welcomed by Vice Admiral Ashok
Subhedar, Director General of Naval
Projects (Mumbai). Indian and Russian
representatives boarded the
Vikramaditya and familiarised
themselves with the current condition
of the vessel, Morskoi Vestnik (MV)
added. The aircraft carrier performed
faultlessly during her very difficult
passage from Russia to India and she is
now in active service with the Indian
Navy. Aircraft regularly operate from
the vessel at sea. Indian pilots are
undergoing training led by pilots from
the MiG Corporation. Also on board
during naval exercises are a guarantee
group made up of 54 specialists from
Sevmash as well as other contract
partners.
During the inspection, Vice-Admiral
Subhedar handed Mikhail Budnichenko
a letter on behalf of the Indian Navy in
which the work of specialists from the
paint-insulation and assembly
workshops were highly praised, MV
added. Working in India, Russian
shipwrights completed a planned
replacement of the surface on the
aircraft carrier's flight deck. "The
group of Russian specialists
demonstrated a high degree of
professionalism and competence in
carrying out the most complex of
painting tasks in high temperatures
and high humidity, which are
diametrically opposed to climatic
conditions in Russia. The specialists
earned the complete understanding
and trust of the ship's crew, which
provided excellent results," MV quoted
the Indian Navy as writing in the letter.
Sevmash representative also met
senior Indian Naval officials in Delhi.
Issues concerning the Vikramaditya's
post-warranty maintenance were
discussed at these talks, MV said. The
warranty for maintenance of the
vessel by the Severodvinsk enterprise
expires on November 16, 2014. The
Indian military put forward a proposal
to extend future cooperation and
ensure that the vessel be maintained
by Russian specialists throughout her
entire life cycle. Further talks will be
held on post-warranty maintenance
this month, according to Morskoi
Vestnik.
