Vikramaditya "significant capability-enhancer" for Indian Navy- Commodore Berry

He didn't ask the most important question:

"The first journey of the Vikramaditya will be its toughest, as it will sail with a skeletal crew, through some potentially unfriendly waters. What steps is the Indian Navy taking to ensure smooth and safe sailing of the ship into Indian waters?"

"The next is the Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning Phase whilst the preparations for the maiden passage would progress concurrently. Plans for these activities are already in progress. "

India to Get Refitted Russian Ship in November – Official

A Russian-built aircraft carrier is to be handed over to the Indian Navy on November 15, and will reach India by February 2014, a senior official at the Russian arms exports monopoly said Wednesday.

The Vikramaditya carrier, which is already years past its original 2008 delivery date, was supposed to have been handed over to India in December 2012, but last year's sea trials revealed that the vessel's boilers were not fully functional.

"We expect that Vikramaditya will dock at a Mumbai port by February,
" Viktor Komardin, deputy head of the state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport, said Wednesday at the NAMEXPO-2013 naval exhibition in India.

Komardin said that the carrier would dock at 14 ports on its way to the final destination.

Once Vikramaditya reaches Mumbai, and once Viraat finishes refit, will both serve under the Western Naval Command or will Viraat be handed over to the Eastern Naval Command in Vishakapatanam?

And once IAC is commissioned, which Command will it join?

Russia offers one-year guarantee for aircraft-carrier

KOCHI, SEPT. 25:
INS Vikramaditya (Admiral Gorshkov), the $2.33 billion Russia-built aircraft carrier which will be delivered to Indian Navy on November 15 after a delay of nearly five years, will only have a one-year guarantee.

Victor M. Komardin, Deputy Director-General of Rosoboronexport, Russia's state-owned arms exporter, told media persons here that during the guarantee period, a team of Russian engineers would be stationed in India to take care of "every single screw of the ship."

Komardin said the warship which would be handed over at the Sevmash shipyard near Moscow, will arrive in Mumbai in February.

Asked about retrofitting the ship with LR-SAM (long-range surface to air missiles) being built jointly by India and Israel, he said Vikramaditya was already an Indian Navy's asset and that the Navy was free to do whatever it wanted to. But it would have to conform to the Russian design parameters.

ARMS SUPPLIES

Komardin said for Russia defence co-operation and arms supplies are a part of its politics of friendship. "For us, politics comes first, then comes economics," he stressed. Though regimes had changed in Russia, politics had not. Indo-Russian exports and imports had been going up every year all along. Russia's engagement with Indian industry was much stronger and wider than other countries," he claimed.

He said India and Russia were "genetically friendly" and that the Russian side wanted to carry on the current defence co-operation. He noted that though Russia had traditionally been India's largest supplier of defence requirements, India was now increasingly sourcing its needs outside of Russia.

He said Russia appreciated India's efforts to indigenise defence production.

LoL Saudi's. The buggers don't dare to challenge Iranian navy. Man someone is simply hoping and wishing for things now PLAN's undies are getting soiled.
The Iranian Navy is neither guarding India's carrier nor is it even on the right side of the geographic feature known as the Arabian Peninsula to guard it. Go look at a map - I understand you have difficulty reading, but maps are mostly shapes, so you should be okay.

Docking 14 Ports may be Via Cape Town
Good, the INS has at least some brains. Sending an unescorted Russo-Indian carrier through confined waters - past Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Egypt - is just plain stupid.

LoL like any of them actually has the capability to come within 200 miles of a carrier. Saudi navy is more of a joke than chinese navy that is scared to sail 100 km from shore.

The exit zone of the Suez Canal is barely 50 miles wide and crowded with fishermen, tugboats, and other civilian shipping. All it would take is a few martyrs, a few tons of Semtex, and a desire by Saudi Arabia to send Russia a message in retaliation for Syria.

How do you know it's unescorted? Why would someone send a $4 billion investment unescorted?

something is burning, you can try
No, I would prescribe:

When one of our Kilo class subs were coming back after refit, it faced rough weather and was escorted by Egyptian navy till beyond Suez. Western Naval Command always has a presence near the Horn of Africa. Do you really think that India will let India's biggest naval acquisition till date travel unguarded?

The group currently in Oman for a diplomatic visit, 1 destroyer (INS Mysore) 2 frigates (INS Tarkash, INS Tabar) and fleet tanker (INS Aditya) might be tasked to escort Viki from Suez to either Mumbai or INS Kadamba. In the Mediterranean we have a tot of "friends" who will escort Viki. Maybe even the RN Mediterranean fleet.
Do you guys know that this ship will have a permanant MARCOS group onboard along with Sagar Prahari Bal as its security staff?
You don't really bother to read previous posts... Do you? :frusty:

Offtopic :

I dont think Saudi`s have any interest in such case ..

Saudi`s are more of toy collectors, They would rather buy an Nimitz super carrier and plated it with gold for show off .. :D

The day Saudi has the balls to challenge an Indian or Russian carrier they will wiped off the map. Oman already hosts Indian Navy ships and IN ships will escort the carrier.
