Description
The Scorpene class submarine is a class of diesel-electric submarine jointly developed by DCNS of France and the Spanish company Navantia. Following a split between the two companies, Scorpène submarines are now solely marketed by DCNS and considered a French design. The class is currently used by Chilean and Royal Malaysian Navies, and has been ordered by Indian and Brazilian navies.

Scorpène submarines are designed in order to maximize stealth and feature very low acoustic, magnetic, electromagnetic and infrared signatures. To achieve this goal all machines and equipment are resiliently mounted on flexible couplings with double elastic mountings. Further noise-reducing focus includes the use of flexible cables and flexible through bulkhead couplings for joining pipes, and special low-noise emission components for rotating machinery.

Design
Pressure hull is made of HLES 80 steel permitting operating depths to 350 m. Some Scorpènes are fitted with two sets of Hagen batteries (depending on customer) totaling 360 cells. All machinery is “rafted” for sound isolation. The lower rudder is shorter to allow for “bottoming” on the sea floor. DCNS also offers Scorpène with an X-Rudder configuration like on Barracuda SSN.
The casing and sail are fabricated from GRP.

The single hull design is divided in three main sections on two decks:
» The bow section contains 6x 533 mm torpedo tubes, weapon magazines (allowing the class to carry up to 18 torpedoes and anti-ship missiles), the batteries and two ballast tanks. At least two of the torpedo tubes are fitted with a pneumatic ram positive discharge system for the launch of SM 39 antiship missiles and torpedoes. Depending on variants, the other tubes are of the swim-out variety.
» The midship compartment houses control room, accommodations, header tanks and auxiliary systems.
» The stern compartment houses the machinery and a second set of batteries. The stern compartment is fitted with two ballast tanks as well.

Equipped with the MESMA air-independent propulsion system, the Scorpène can remain submerged for periods in excess of 3 weeks.
The MESMA AIP (Autonomous Submarine Energy Module) is an electrical energy production module designed specifically for conventional submarines. As well as supplying electricity to the vessel and to the propulsion system, it can also be used to recharge the batteries without the need to come back to Periscope depth. The MESMA AIP quadruples the underwater range of a conventional submarine, which significantly extends its scope of action and enhances its stealth performance.

It's just a toothless tiger without its torpedoes. No one is going to be scared of it. A submarine without torpedoes is like a gun without bullets.

I heard about BlackShark Torpedo would be equipped.I also heard that AIP is less than Khalid Submarine

India test-fires Anti-Ship Missile from Made In India Submarine - INS Kalvari

The Indian Navy successfully conducted maiden firing of an AntiShip missile from first of Kalvari class submarines, during test firing in the Arabian Sea on Thursday. The missile has successfully hit a surface target at extended ranges during the trial firing which was held on Thursday morning.

According to a tweet by SpokespersonNavy, the project 75 Submarine Kalvari successfully launched underwater missile and engaged the surface target.

As per the details released by the Indian Navy, this missile launch is a significant milestone for the Kalvari, which is the first in a series of Scorpene class submarine being built in India.

The Ministry of Defence also lauded the achievement and said, “This missile launch is a significant milestone, not only for the Kalvari, which is the first in a series of Scorpene class submarines being built in India, but also in enhancing the Indian Navy’s sub-surface warfare capability.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the country’s defence scientists for successfully testing the missile, saying it was a proud moment for the entire nation.

The missle provide the submarine the ability to neutralise surface threats at extended ranges.

Kalvari, which is the first of the Indian Navy’s Scorpene class stealth submarines being built under the Project 75, is currently undergoing extensive sea trials and will soon be inducted into the Indian Navy. Reportedly, the submarines are being built by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in collaboration with France’s DCNS.

On Wednesday, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had successfully test-fired an indigenously developed supersonic Interceptor Missile from Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar congratulated DRDO on the successful launch of the interceptor missile.
Chairman DRDO and Secretary Department of Defence R&D Dr S Christopher also congratulated team AAD for the successful test firing.

The endo-atmospheric missile, capable of intercepting incoming targets at an altitude of 15 to 25 kms successfully destroyed the incoming missile. All the mission objectives were successfully met.
