Yup, South Bombay and North Bombay are world's apart. Also railway stations and its surroundings are extremely dirty and filthy.
Which places did you visit in North Mumbai. Generally south is called city and north is called suburbs.

Once you cross Bandra then technically the south Mumbai region starts.

Mumbai is filthy, generally the higher the Muslim population in a area the filthier it is.

Paan spitting is a big problem in Mumbai, people just throw garbage wherever they like.

Generally residential area are pretty clean even in North with lot of greenery. It is much better than before I would say. But the roads have to be the worst thing. The state of Western Express highway brings tears to eyes. Dust is a big problem, literally everywhere construction work happens all the time.

Civic sense amongst people isnt that great but still I have seen lot of improvements over the years, doesnt mean we arent behind. Just one look at Juhu beach and the stench there is enough to convince anyone to run off.

Mumbai feels like it is in its work in progress all the time.

It is rich but it doesn't look like it. We are very far away from world standards that much I can say.

This is how street level infra should be built which is missing in Indian cities. This was built when Sri Lanka was a $4000 or something GDP Per capita upper-middle income country. Nothing difficult in replicating these. In such methods, wide roads, pavements and cleanliness can be maintained.

Else in Indian method, footpaths are made-up of concrete blocks, with greenery seperating the road and footpath. Nobody maintains the greenery and the garden becomes a source of dust which accumulates on the streets and the fragile footpaths break apart easily giving war-torn aesthetics to our urban areas.

Well in Colombo they also maintain an army of sweepers to clean the roadside and dust.. Also an educated population also does matter, Kerala with a higher educated population has similar cleanliness than rest of India.

Indian cities need to use trucks fitted with pressure washers to clean the main wide roads and portable pressure washers for narrow streets. This needs to be done frequently to keep our cities clean and dust free. Govt also needs to fine the building developers who dump sand/stones on the streets and make it dusty.

For metro cities, govt should start imposing fines for littering. Then we can extend this to other cities and towns.

Disagree .. The cleanliness in Kerela is definitely higher than that of rest of India.. But then again rest of India is a loose term . Sikkim Indore etc have high cleanliness as well.

It's good that an expansion of a city is being done in a planned manner. But looking at videos out of GIFT it seems that a lot more development needs to happen there before they think of expansion. Some random IT parks in Blore Hyderbad have more office floorspace than GIFT right now.

It's good that an expansion of a city is being done in a planned manner. But looking at videos out of GIFT it seems that a lot more development needs to happen there before they think of expansion. Some random IT parks in Blore Hyderbad have more office floorspace than GIFT right now.
Bangalore has more Grade-A office space than Singapore, is it anywhere close to it? GIFT is a Central Business District being built from scratch and is still performing great compared to established tech-hubs. Many projects are under construction and is filling up faster than last decade.
