You never know. Think about the situation where india is a $5-6 trillion economy. SNB area is very industrial and people want to go quickly to manufacturing sites and return to Delhi. You are really building for a future situation.
Maybe, but there plans to connect areas like Palwal which are small village like towns and I think SNB would be the same, I don't find any feasibility there.

The Maharashtra state government has been working to expedite the implementation of various ongoing waterways and port infrastructural projects in the state.
A meeting between Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, was held on 21 February 2023.
The meeting focused on discussions related to various projects in the state for ports, shipping and waterways proposed under the Sagarmala Project.
Underlining that the maritime infrastructure plays a vital role in the nation’s economy, Sonowal said that the Sagarmala project aligns with the Maritime India Vision 2030, and is aimed at providing better facilities to the people in the coastal region.
He said the initiatives would further boost infrastructure and drive investments to improve regional connectivity to aid trade.
Through the implementation of the Sagarmala initiative, Indian ports have become more efficient in handling large volumes of containers with reduced turnaround time.
Maritime Development In Maharashtra
In 2015, the Indian Government approved the Sagarmala project to facilitate port-led development in the country. The project aims to harness the 7,500-km-long coastline of the country to its full economic potential.
The project's objective is to improve the transportation infrastructure at ports for efficient, quick, and cost-effective movement of resources.
The state of Maharashtra has a long coastline spanning around 720 km, that has numerous established trade and commercial operations. Under the Sagarmala project, there are 114 projects being implemented with an estimate cost of Rs 99,210 crore.
Out of the total projects, 43 projects worth Rs 2,121 crores are partially funded by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW).
According to an official release, 11 projects worth Rs 443 crore are under the development stage, while various other projects have been completed.
With the meeting, Minister Sonowal further said that to celebrate the maritime activities of the coastal states of the country, the ‘Coastal States Pavilion’ has been proposed to be developed in the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC).
Accordingly, an area of 14,000 sq. ft. with a construction area of 6,000- 8,000 sq. ft. has been identified in the state.
The meeting also stressed on the development of environment-friendly Ro-Ro (roll on-roll off) and Passenger transportation through waterways.
The inland waterways, for the purpose of passenger transportations and tourism, have been witnessing prime attention, with an objective to harness the potential of the vast water resources in India.
At present, 31 Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax projects are currently functioning in Maharashtra.
Promoting Greener Growth Of Shipping Industry
With such large-scale growth and developing waterways and shipping industries, the centre is aiming to increase the share of renewable energy to 60 per cent in the total power consumption of its major ports from a present share of less than 10 per cent.
Many operational and upcoming ports have aimed to reduce carbon emissions, per tonne of cargo handled, by 30 per cent by the year 2030, following the Maritime Vision Document 2030 for a sustainable maritime sector and vibrant blue economy.
The MoPSW has undertaken green port initiatives in the major ports so that their environmental performance can be improved.
These initiatives include acquisition of various equipment:
  • for monitoring environmental pollution
  • dust suppression systems
  • setting up of STP’s garbage disposal system for ports and ships
  • developing shore reception facility for wastes from ships
  • setting up projects for energy generation from renewable energy sources
Additionally, actions are being implemented for improving harbour water quality, sustainable practices in terminal development and operations, and increasing green cover within port premises

MUMBAI: Mumbai-listed Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd (GPPL), the entity that runs a private port at Pipavav in Gujarat, has opened a multimodal logistics park nearby in partnership with Contrans Logistic Pvt Ltd as it seeks to strengthen landside infrastructure to boost business.

Gujarat Pipavav Port is 43.01 percent owned by A P M Terminals Management B V, the container port operating unit of Danish transport and logistics giant A P Moller-Maersk A/S.

The logistic park will offer modern warehousing facilities and customized logistics solutions, Gujarat Pipavav Port said.

The multimodal logistics park (MMLP), the first such facility in the Saurashtra region, will support both international and domestic storage requirements by offering a bouquet of value-added services to customers. It offers connectivity with international and coastal shipping routes, access to the Indian rail network through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and connects to the evolving road network in Gujarat and the northern hinterland.

“The MMLP will bring global trade to the area and enable the locals to do global trade seamlessly thereby unlocking the untapped potential of the region. It is developed in alignment with the government’s objective of building critical infrastructure to lower logistics cost and support economic growth along with job creation,” said Girish Aggarwal, Managing Director, Gujarat Pipavav Port.

“The aim is to address the economies of scale associated with integrated warehousing facilities in the region and considering that multimodal logistics parks are not available to stakeholders in the value chain, especially the small and medium enterprise,” said Captain Navjit Grewal, Chairman, Contrans Logistic Pvt Ltd.

“This is what has driven our partnership with APM Terminals Pipavav to support the trade. With the launch of the MMLP, we expect significant growth in EXIM traffic for bulk commodities and other cargo,” added Captain Rajeev Niroola, Managing Director, Contrans Logistic.

They basically said it was all about money because Godrej held that land and did nothing with it for years. Any common man with one iota of common sense would instantly know what Godrej was trying to do. He was trying to hold the gov't to ransom and you can't do that with land that involve national projects and eminent domain. There was no personal attachment to that land.

Out of these projects, seven projects are for the abatement of pollution in the river basin, while two projects have been approved for development of the ghats.

The Namami Gange Executive Committee has approved nine projects, worth over Rs 1,278 crore focusing on controlling pollution, rejuvenation and development of the river stretches passing through various states.

Out of these projects, seven projects are for the abatement of pollution in the river basin, while two projects have been approved for development of ghats.

The decision was taken during the 47th meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the chairmanship of NMCG director general, G Asok Kumar.

The 2,520-km-long Ganga flows through major cities, and since 2014, the government through its Namami Gange Programme, has introduced various initiatives towards reviving the river conditions.

Ghat Development Projects

For ghat development, the executive committee approved one project worth Rs 2.84 crore at the Nageshwar Dham Ashram Ghat in Fatehpur.

Additionally, in Bihar, a project for the development of Atal Ghat in Saran was also approved at an estimated cost of Rs 10.04 crore.

The project includes development of the ghat area for bathing, space and arrangements for pooja and other religious ceremonies, along with additional facilities for drinking water, flood lights, landscaping and segregated waste dustbins.

The significance of the river Ganga in Hindu traditions connects the population with the river at several important stages of their life.

These includes specific practices, be it the anointment of a newborn with the river’s holy water, wedding ceremonies, cremations at its banks, along with numerous other cultural, regional and livelihood traditions.

With these significant practices, the development of ghats have always been a natural answer in improving the human engagement with the river. These ghats additionally serve as popular tourist attractions.

Controlling Pollution In The River And Its Tributaries

Under the approved projects, various Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and other works will be implemented to clean the river Ganga, in several states, including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

In the main stem of river Ganga, a project in West Bengal worth Rs 123.02 crore has been approved for creation of a 13 MLD STP and a 300 kilolitre per day (KLD) decentralised STP at Chakdaha Municipal Town.

In Uttar Pradesh, three projects worth Rs 422 crore were approved. These include a project for intercepting and redirecting 13 drains through increased treatment capacity of Salori STP, in Prayagraj, by 43 MLD.

Another project worth Rs 95.47 crore has been approved for the rejuvenation of Kali River. This will be done by development of in-situ constructed Wetland Systems at eight locations in Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Hapur and Bulandshahar.

In Bihar, project worth Rs 94.12 crore has been approved for the development of two STPs for pollution abatement in the river stretch in Lakhisarai town.

For Madhya Pradesh, two projects were placed before the Executive Committee for approval. Out of these, a major project costing Rs 511.15 crore was approved. This project will keep a check on pollution levels of the urban rivers Kahn and Saraswati, passing in Indore.

The proposed projects will have construction of STPs of varied capacities — 120 MLD, 40 MLD and 35 MLD. An important component of this project is the creation of treated water reuse network with the 120 MLD and 35 MLD capacity STPs.

The other proposed project in the state is the construction of a 22 MLD STP and 2.35 MLD Effluent Treatment Plant in Ujjain town for treating effluents in the Kshipra river.

The river acts as a major source of water for the town and surrounding regions in the state. This project, however, was referred for further clarification.

Furthermore, the meeting also finalised projects for the monitoring of industrial pollution, through the project titled- Pollution Inventorisation, Assessment and Surveillance on River Ganga Basin (PIAS), piloted by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

A special first of its kind project, worth Rs 1.9 crore, titled- Survey, Investigation for Rejuvenation and Conservation of Shahdara Drain with nature-based treatment — Soil Biotechnology (SBT), was also moved forward with the meeting.

The Namami Gange Programme is a flagship initiative of the Union Government and was implemented by the National Mission for Clean Ganga.

Recently the second phase of the mission was approved till the year 2026. (more on it here)

Is it me or the exterior paint quality and finishing looks much better than Train 18? However, VB has better interiors.

Exterior looks like Stainless Steel shell with Minimal Paint. Meanwhile VB suffers from Uneven Panel Gap and also no side skirt to cover the underslung equipment which these trains have.

I felt that the RRTS has a much better looking on its front and back end than the VB trains. But I am sure that VB Mk2 will show better exterior aesthetics in the future once the VB system matures.
