Ya'll Nibbiars The In the future, a canal might be constructed to carry excess water from the Chembarambakkam reservoir to the abandoned quarries in Sikkarayapuram. The water could be stored as a buffer drinking water source for Chennai residents. This was proposed by the Water Resources Department or WRD. Located 25kms from Chennai, Chembarambakkam reservoir is one of the two irain fed reservoirs from where water is supplied to Chennai public.

A considerable amount of water flows into Adyar River every time the flood gates of the reservoir at Chembarambakkam get opened due to excess water storage. It was brought out that a portion of water would be diverted to Sikkarayapuram quarries and the water could be drawn during droughts.

Near the Chembarambakkam surplus course at Kavanur, a 2.10km channel would be constructed and this would carry 500 cusecs of water. It must be recalled that in June 2022 the shutters of Chembarambakkam reservoir were opened.

maybe the solution is no longer in political domain.
was just checking BBMP annual revenue, it's just about 10,000 crores. not at all sufficient to find any meaningful engineering solution.
relaying sections of mumbai roads with one foot concrete at the bottom cost more than 30 thousand crores and three years time. BMC revenue is around 30 thousand crores.
Only around 15% of Bangalore goes swimming every time it rains. 100% of them are “new settlers” in “new areas”. 85% of Bangalore remains unaffected due to rains.

No amount of municipal largese will fix this mess. Reason being the mess was largely intentional. A quick glance at Bangalore’s topography map shows the reason.

When real estate businesses needed large land parcels for mega IT parks and super duper gated communities, they found only the lake beds suitable. Promptly went about killing lakes and putting up grand structures on them. All with govt cooperation.

obviously infra already created cannot be removed.

next best thing is focussing on the solution rather than focussing on the past, solution can be as simple as storm water drain under the existing roads of this 15 % area to the lakes, and another line to evacuate the water from the lake outside of bangalore. bangalore is an elevated city.

i think nitin gadkari is coming to bangalore this week for meeting on infa structure. bangaloreans should utilise this opportunity to give a representation to the central minister, but also make sure contradictory requirements are not put forth. SM outrage has limited utility.

Need strong political will to do what you have correctly pointed out. Something KA administrators have repeatedly found lacking in. Hence mr.Pai’s shoutout to the Vishwaguru found resonance.

Electronic City in Bengaluru is India’s first IT hub. Almost 35 years old. No flooding, no water logging here. Excellent civic amenities management by autonomous ELCITA. Perhaps the only dry IT area in entire city. So-called IT corridor built in the last 25 years is under water.

EC1 was set up by KEONICS in the 70s. The days of proper planning. Topography of EC1 and EC2 will show them being highlands.

public representation to govt is also a powerful tool, when correctly utilised. if and when public consultations happen, public has to participate, or else elites will hijack the agenda.

Fun fact - the “new settlers” - the “100% swimmers when it rains” - firmly believe as long as they e-pay their taxes, they are entitled to hema malini cheek-like roads. Come elections, 99% of this set go for trips in their shiny SUVs. Zero local participation.

Its the rest 85% unaffected junta who have local connection and at the very least are aware of who their ward corporator is.

Peculiar paradox!

Only few parts of Bangalore were flooded. The elites made it like whole BG got flooded.
The same date there was a big concert in another part of BG where more than 10K people took part.

Ya'll Nibbiars The Construction update of new Ishwar Gupta Setu in West Bengal. The 6-lane bridge is being built by L&T for WBHDCL as part of the Mogra-Barajaguli elevated corridor that will connect NH 12 with NH 19.
