Bhaupur-Khurja section of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor to be open by November 2019

New Delhi: The Bhaupur-Khurja section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor in Uttar Pradesh will be open by November. It will reduce pressure on the saturated trunk route of the North Central Railway between Kanpur-New Delhi, the DFCCIL said on Friday.

The easing of traffic will be done through shifting of freight trains from the Indian Railway route to dedicated freight corridor (DFC).


This was decided in a meeting between the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation India Ltd (DFCCIL) and the North Central Railway (NCR) on Thursday.

The DFCCIL statement said, both parties did a detailed review of every aspect for targeted project completion.
Besides targets, coordination issues among various executing agencies were also discussed and finalised.

“North Central Railway and DFCCIL agreed to open Bhaupur and Khurja section of DFC by Nov -19 which will ease super saturated trunk route of NCR between Kanpur – New Delhi through shifting of freight trains from Indian Railway to Dedicated Freight Corridor route,” it said.

Benefits-

The statement said,”This will not only help NCR to run passenger services efficiently with improved punctuality but will also ensure availability of more time for track and other asset maintenance thus enhanced safety in train operations.”


It has been decided to start train operation between Bhadan and Khurja.
It said,”This will help in a great way in doing long overdue non-interlocking work of Tundla. Tundla is the only major rudimentary yard on the main trunk route from Kolkata to Delhi which is operated by hand lever arrangement.”
The entire DFCs will be completed by 2021, the statement said

It will connect Mumbai (@Sewri) and Navi Mumbai(@Nhava Sheva/JNPT).

Navi Mumbai metro also started trial runs along Taloja-Pendhar line.

Navi Mumbai International Airport is also making steady progress. Entire hill section has been flattened. Vague runway outline visible.

JNPTs new terminal started its operations last year itself.

Russian GLONASS launches service for India's transport sector

    NEW DELHI: Russian GLONASS or Global Navigation Satellite System is providing a key service in Indian transport sector being introduced on New Delhi-Mumbai Highway.

    The operator for GLONASS based system Platon received a contract for the introduction of a system in India. Platon began introduction of a fare payment system based on the GLONASS on the New Delhi - Mumbai highway. Its operation in India can bring up to $ 2-3 billion per year.
    Case load bogs down NCLT

    The company RT-Invest Transport Systems (RTITS), co-owned by Igor Rotenberg, won the tender for the introduction of a toll-based satellite navigation system GLONASS in India and has already begun its implementation on the New Delhi-Mumbai highway.

    The Russian company signed a contract with India in late December 2018.

    According to Maxim Khudalov, director of the group of corporate ratings of ACRA, the refinement and adaptation of Platon for India can cost about 10–15% of the development cost, that is, 2.9–4.4 billion rubles.

    At the same time, RTITS will earn not only on the installation of the system, but also on its maintenance.

    The contract for the supply of transport monitoring and control systems based on satellite navigation systems GLONASS and GPS to India was signed in 2010. The fact that India is also interested in the implementation of the Platon system, in November 2017, was highlighted by Yevgeny Dietrich, at that time the first deputy minister of transport.


    In April 2018, the head of the Ministry of Transport, Dietrich, informed that an agreement with India on the use of the Russian toll system could be signed before the end of the year.

    In addition to RTITs, this contract was claimed by other foreign toll systems operators - Skytoll from Slovakia, National Toll Payment Services from Hungary, and the Indian subsidiary of the Austrian company Efkon.

    According to RTITS, work on the deployment of the Platon system on the New Delhi-Mumbai highway with a length of 1.419 thousand km began in January of this year.

    The vehicles will be equipped with onboard devices based on the GLONASS / IRNSS satellite system, which have been developed specifically for this project.

    GLONASS, or "Global Navigation Satellite System", is a space-based satellite navigation system operating in the radionavigation-satellite service. It provides an alternative to GPS and is the second navigational system in operation with global coverage and of comparable precision.
This seems like it can have some security implications.

India installed 7.5 GW of solar power and 2.4 GW of wind energy in 2019

India’s renewable energy capacity increased to 86 GW in 2019, according to new figures from JMK Research & Analytics, with 7.5 GW of new utility-scale solar capacity being added, and 2.4 GW of new wind power capacity!

Indian clean energy consultancy firm JMK Research & Analytics published Indian renewable energy capacity addition data last week based on data provided by the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The country’s renewable energy capacity increased to 86 GW, with wind energy providing 44% of the country’s renewable energy mix, followed by solar with 39%.

In 2019, around 7.5GW of new utility-scale solar capacity was added, a 14% increase over 2018 with another 1GW of rooftop solar installations reported. The southwest Indian state of Karnataka led the way with 2GW of new solar capacity added, followed by the state of Rajasthan with 1.7GW, Tamil Nadu with 1.5GW, Gujarat with 936MW, Andhra Pradesh with 917MW, and Madhya Pradesh with651 MW.

Unfortunately, total solar capacity additions fell short of projections due in large part to project delays across the industry and which are now likely to be commissioned in the first half of 2020.

These project delays were caused by a variety of issues, including land acquisition issues, execution delays, delays caused by secondary power off-takers in submitting approvals, policy uncertainty, and the withdrawal of open access benefits, re-tendering, etc.

While wind energy accounts for a larger share of India’s current renewable energy share, it nevertheless accounted for a smaller increase in 2019 capacity additions, installing 2.4GW, increasing total wind capacity by 10%.

Again, however, the majority of wind projects allocated in 2018 and scheduled to be commissioned in 2019 were delayed and are now set to be commissioned this year. These delays were primarily due to various land availability issues and lack of grid transmission availability.

The westernmost state of Gujarat installed the lion’s share of new wind capacity, installing 1.4 GW, followed by Tamil Nadu with 650 MW and Maharashtra with 212 MW.

Was looking up Modi's housing scheme for some data. Remarkable statistics. Between 2014-20, 17.6 million new houses have been *completed* under the scheme!

So, basically, somewhere between 90-100 million people have a built house to live in.

Also, 93 million toilets built!

PM Modi to inaugurate submarine cable connectivity to Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and dedicate to the Nation through video conferencing the submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) connecting Chennai and Port Blair on Monday (10th August, 2020).



The submarine cable will also connect Port Blair to Swaraj Dweep (Havelock), Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Kamorta, Great Nicobar, Long Island, and Rangat.

This connectivity will enable delivery of faster and more reliable mobile and landline telecom services to Andaman & Nicobar Islands, at par with other parts of India. The foundation stone for this project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30th December 2018 at Port Blair.

Once inaugurated, the submarine OFC link will deliver bandwidth of 2 x 200 Gigabits per second (Gbps) between Chennai and Port Blair, and 2 x 100 Gbps between Port Blair and the other islands.

Provision of reliable, robust, and high-speed telecom and Broadband facilities in these Islands will be a landmark achievement from the viewpoint of consumers, as well as for strategic and governance reasons.

4G mobile services, which were constrained due to limited backhaul bandwidth provided via satellite will also see a major improvement.

Enhanced telecom and Broadband connectivity will boost tourism and employment generation in the Islands, give an impetus to the economy and raise standards of living.

Better connectivity will also facilitate delivery of e-Governance services such as telemedicine and tele-education. Small enterprises will benefit from opportunities in e-commerce, while educational institutions will utilize the enhanced availability of bandwidth for e-learning and knowledge sharing.

Business Process Outsourcing services and other medium and large enterprises will also reap the benefits of better connectivity.

The project is funded by the Government of India through the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) executed this project while Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) are the Technical Consultants.

About 2300 Kms of Submarine OFC cable has been laid at a cost of about Rs 1224 Crore, and the project has been completed in time.
