In a big boost to Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) implementation in National Capital Region, the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor will now be under the ambit of PM Gati Shakti masterplan.
The project has been shortlisted by Network Planning Group (NPG) under Ministry of Commerce and Industry, among other projects to boost urban connectivity and support manufacturing.
Backing of the NPG, consisting of the heads of the planning divisions of eight ministries and departments is likely to result in faster approvals and expeditious completion of the much-delayed project.
The Project
The Delhi-Gurugram-SNB (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror Urban Complex) RRTS corridor is part of the Delhi-Arwal RRTS Line.
One of the three RRTS corridors prioritised for implementation, Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar is planned to be implemented in three stages.

Delhi-Alwar RRTS Alignment

Delhi-Alwar RRTS Alignment
Under the first stage, a 106.5 km stretch will be constructed from Sarai Kale Khan (SKK) in Delhi to SNB Urban Complex, just ahead of Bawal (Haryana), enroute touching various regional nodes such as Gurugram, Manesar, Panchgaon and Rewari.
The line would be extended from SNB Urban Complex to Sotanala (33.3 km), with Shahjahanpur, Neemrana, and Behror in between, under the second phase. SNB to Alwar (58 km) extension is proposed under the third phase.
The Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor will be elevated for about 71 km (11 stations), the remaining 35 km (5 stations) will be constructed underground, mostly in Delhi & Gurugram.
Alignment OF SKK-SNB RRTS Corridor

Alignment OF SKK-SNB RRTS Corridor
This corridor will be interoperable with the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, facilitating commuters to travel between one corridor to another without the need to change the train.
Similarly, with an intent to incentivise the use of Public Transport, RRTS stations on this corridor will be seamlessly integrated with other modes of transport — metro rail, railway station and ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan; metro rail systems at INA, Aerocity, Udyog Vihar in Gurgaon, Kherki Duala, and Panchgaon and IGI airport at Aerocity.
Approval
The Board of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is carrying out the RRTS project, had in December 2021 approved the construction of the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor. Subsequently, the detailed project report (DPR) of the project was approved by the state governments of Haryana and Rajasthan in 2019.
The corridor is planned to be constructed in about five years’ time, excluding one year of pre-construction activities at a base construction cost of Rs 37,987 crore, funded by government of India (20 per cent), concerned state governments (20 per cent) and bilateral/multilateral funding agencies (60 per cent).
The centre has already received the approval with financial commitment of government of Haryana and government of Rajasthan for Delhi-SNB RRTS corridor. However, the Delhi government has not agreed to provide funds for the RRTS corridor connecting the national capital with Rajasthan and Haryana.
The proposal is currently under consideration of government of India.
Significance
This RRTS smart line will pass through the urbanised and industrialised areas of Haryana such as Gurugram, Rewari, Manesar, Daruheda, Bawal and connect Delhi airport with the RRTS network, increasing the overall productivity of NCR.
Once constructed, the corridor is expected to bring down the travel time between Sarai Kale Khan (SKK) and SNB to less than 70 minutes. The daily ridership on this corridor is estimated to be 8.5 lakh in 2025.
Apart from unlocking economic development potential of the region, such high-speed commute will bring people and places closer, enabling polycentric growth in NCR.
Does this route has traffic high enough and sophisticated enough to justify a RRTS line on this route.

Are they planning to replicate this RRTS system elsewhere in India or will they use Vande Bharat metro trains instead?

What is the difference between RRTS and Vande Bharat metro style?

You never know. Think about the situation where india is a $5-6 trillion economy. SNB area is very industrial and people want to go quickly to manufacturing sites and return to Delhi. You are really building for a future situation.
Maybe, but there plans to connect areas like Palwal which are small village like towns and I think SNB would be the same, I don't find any feasibility there.

The Maharashtra state government has been working to expedite the implementation of various ongoing waterways and port infrastructural projects in the state.
A meeting between Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, was held on 21 February 2023.
The meeting focused on discussions related to various projects in the state for ports, shipping and waterways proposed under the Sagarmala Project.
Underlining that the maritime infrastructure plays a vital role in the nation’s economy, Sonowal said that the Sagarmala project aligns with the Maritime India Vision 2030, and is aimed at providing better facilities to the people in the coastal region.
He said the initiatives would further boost infrastructure and drive investments to improve regional connectivity to aid trade.
Through the implementation of the Sagarmala initiative, Indian ports have become more efficient in handling large volumes of containers with reduced turnaround time.
Maritime Development In Maharashtra
In 2015, the Indian Government approved the Sagarmala project to facilitate port-led development in the country. The project aims to harness the 7,500-km-long coastline of the country to its full economic potential.
The project's objective is to improve the transportation infrastructure at ports for efficient, quick, and cost-effective movement of resources.
The state of Maharashtra has a long coastline spanning around 720 km, that has numerous established trade and commercial operations. Under the Sagarmala project, there are 114 projects being implemented with an estimate cost of Rs 99,210 crore.
Out of the total projects, 43 projects worth Rs 2,121 crores are partially funded by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW).
According to an official release, 11 projects worth Rs 443 crore are under the development stage, while various other projects have been completed.
With the meeting, Minister Sonowal further said that to celebrate the maritime activities of the coastal states of the country, the ‘Coastal States Pavilion’ has been proposed to be developed in the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC).
Accordingly, an area of 14,000 sq. ft. with a construction area of 6,000- 8,000 sq. ft. has been identified in the state.
The meeting also stressed on the development of environment-friendly Ro-Ro (roll on-roll off) and Passenger transportation through waterways.
The inland waterways, for the purpose of passenger transportations and tourism, have been witnessing prime attention, with an objective to harness the potential of the vast water resources in India.
At present, 31 Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax projects are currently functioning in Maharashtra.
Promoting Greener Growth Of Shipping Industry
With such large-scale growth and developing waterways and shipping industries, the centre is aiming to increase the share of renewable energy to 60 per cent in the total power consumption of its major ports from a present share of less than 10 per cent.
Many operational and upcoming ports have aimed to reduce carbon emissions, per tonne of cargo handled, by 30 per cent by the year 2030, following the Maritime Vision Document 2030 for a sustainable maritime sector and vibrant blue economy.
The MoPSW has undertaken green port initiatives in the major ports so that their environmental performance can be improved.
These initiatives include acquisition of various equipment:
  • for monitoring environmental pollution
  • dust suppression systems
  • setting up of STP’s garbage disposal system for ports and ships
  • developing shore reception facility for wastes from ships
  • setting up projects for energy generation from renewable energy sources
Additionally, actions are being implemented for improving harbour water quality, sustainable practices in terminal development and operations, and increasing green cover within port premises

MUMBAI: Mumbai-listed Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd (GPPL), the entity that runs a private port at Pipavav in Gujarat, has opened a multimodal logistics park nearby in partnership with Contrans Logistic Pvt Ltd as it seeks to strengthen landside infrastructure to boost business.

Gujarat Pipavav Port is 43.01 percent owned by A P M Terminals Management B V, the container port operating unit of Danish transport and logistics giant A P Moller-Maersk A/S.

The logistic park will offer modern warehousing facilities and customized logistics solutions, Gujarat Pipavav Port said.

The multimodal logistics park (MMLP), the first such facility in the Saurashtra region, will support both international and domestic storage requirements by offering a bouquet of value-added services to customers. It offers connectivity with international and coastal shipping routes, access to the Indian rail network through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and connects to the evolving road network in Gujarat and the northern hinterland.

“The MMLP will bring global trade to the area and enable the locals to do global trade seamlessly thereby unlocking the untapped potential of the region. It is developed in alignment with the government’s objective of building critical infrastructure to lower logistics cost and support economic growth along with job creation,” said Girish Aggarwal, Managing Director, Gujarat Pipavav Port.

“The aim is to address the economies of scale associated with integrated warehousing facilities in the region and considering that multimodal logistics parks are not available to stakeholders in the value chain, especially the small and medium enterprise,” said Captain Navjit Grewal, Chairman, Contrans Logistic Pvt Ltd.

“This is what has driven our partnership with APM Terminals Pipavav to support the trade. With the launch of the MMLP, we expect significant growth in EXIM traffic for bulk commodities and other cargo,” added Captain Rajeev Niroola, Managing Director, Contrans Logistic.
