Instead of getting Aegis Technology from The West to counter chinese Aegis the Neavy is building this glorified 2010s destroyers.

What a waste of tax payers money.
These destroyers have their own aegis type combat management system, datafusion in these system have the highest degreepossible as of current and with the help of sat and other comm systems, these ships don't need their fcr and surveillance to fire any weapon but can rely on other ship which is streaming miles away with a data network.

Guys our Indian ship building centres are working on snail pace
Better to get them right, then getting them into service to quickly with lots of issues. Take the time to make sure they are up to standard before commissioning IMO.

Undergunned disappointment.Expected atleast 48 baraks or maybe vls cells for nirbhay, but IN failed again. Are these -the best IN can muster supposed to fight type 55s?Right now andaman is our one great trump card, but IN needs to step up and increase payload of these ships.Brahmos and Barak are both great weapons, far better than anything chin has.But 32 is simply not enough.
Vishakhapatnam class has enough space to put more missiles. It is longer than Type 52 D. So provision is there. I do not know why it does not have enough Barak 8? Possibally it carries it in store and not in ready to use condition in VLS.

They are using concept of "Fitted For But Not With". Vsl has enough weapons to provide credible war fighting capabilities against current foes but has space and capacity designed in for future upgrades or additions. By not loading them up from the start, you save cost in the initial build. Every VLS and missile adds cost...useless if you fit VLS but leave the magazine empty. Armament upgrade is easy enough during dry dock periods as long as the ship is designed to accept the upgrades

Not to mention, building a ship stocked full with today's weapons leaves little room to upgrade in the future.

IN is of the opinion "lets arm it enough to wipe the floor with PLAN ships" and leave room for weapons of the future that will come in with P18.

it is in the news that UK is offering many defense related things to us . Now the problem is these people are slimy leaches cum snakes these people are not to be trusted the reason being they are USAs pet dogs . few incidents that comes to mind are problems with the supply of spare parts of sea harriers , sea king navel copters , some issues with jaguars and hawk trainers and then malpractice with tenders of euro fighter now they offer us 6th gen fighter and aircraft carrier design .my guess is if they get any big contract they will show there true colour again and it is quite possible if there is change of govt in center

It’s just a sales pitch using their friendly journalists, there is quite a distance between sales pitch and a deal. With UK it’s even longer...

That's okay, India is no kid either. We want there to be many bids on our requirements so that our intended supplier comes under pressure from lower bids made by others. That's the purpose of bidding. In the final stages of bidding, the losing party deliberately makes low bids to put pressure on the potential bid winner (remember how they reduced the price of Typhoons at the last moment after Rafale was chosen). We end up getting a slight discount in the final bargain. Let the UK keep bidding on all our tenders, it doesn't cost us any money. Once the bidding is over, they go home and vent out their frustration by making another documentary about India's problems :D

Can our future P18 class destroyers accomodate each a single VTOL fighter in addition to ASW helos. If yes, can we make a special VTOL variant of NAMCA at that time period like 2030. Just too much expectation I guess.:pound:

No impact of fire on completion schedule of INS Visakhapatnam: Navy officials

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDSL), which constructs warships and submarines for the Indian Navy, said the extent of the damage in the Friday fire is being ascertained.

MUMBAI: A day after a fire occurred at an under-construction Naval warship at Mazgaon Dockyard here, a senior official Saturday said it would not affect the schedule of the ambitious 'Project 15-B' under which four warships are being manufactured.

Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDSL), which constructs warships and submarines for the Indian Navy, said the extent of the damage in the Friday fire is being ascertained.

A "minor fire" had broken out in yard 12704 in the dock in south Mumbai at 4 pm, in which a contractual worker died due to asphyxia and burn injuries while another worker suffered "minor burn" injuries.

Seeking to allay concerns on whether the fire could delay the timely commissioning of warships, a senior MSDCL official said the project would be executed as per the deadlines.

"The extent of damage is being ascertained. It is, however, confirmed that there will be no effect on the project timelines," Ashish Singh, chief spokesperson, MDSL, told PTI.

The stealth guided missile destroyer 'Visakhapatnam' is being built in the yard and is the first of the four such ships under the Rs 29,340-crore 'Project 15-B', contracted to MDSL.

Construction of 'Visakhapatnam', the new class of stealth destroyers, started in April 2015 and the first of the destroyers is scheduled to be commissioned by 2021.

The rest three warships are 'Mormugao', 'Imphal' and 'Porbandar'.

The ships under the 'Project 15-B' feature cutting-edge advanced technology parallel to the best ships of a similar class in the world.

The warships under the 'Project 15-B' class are 163-metre in length and 17.4-metre at beam, which will be propelled by four gas turbines to achieve speeds in excess of 30 knots.

These ships will be equipped to carry two multiple-role helicopters.
