Indian DeepTech startup Astrome develops world’s first multi-beam e-band radio
Indian DeepTech startup Astrome Technologies, Incubated at IISc Bangalore has developed the world’s first multi-link E-Band Radio, GigaMesh. This product shall revolutionize the deployment of wireless backhaul in Rural Broadband and Defence communications markets in India and the world.
E-Band(70-80GHz) is a high-speed and high-capacity wireless communication frequency, which solves the purpose for both urban and rural locations. With the entire world migrating to virtual communication, there is a greater demand for gigabit-speed internet for hassle-free communication, data transfer, etc. E-band is the right technology to tackle these demands.
GigaMesh is an E-band radio, with Multiple-Point-to-Point (Multi-P2P) communication, making it the most effective way to share fiber-like capacity wirelessly. In terms of applicability, a single GigaMesh at a Gram Panchayat in Rural India, can connect to multiple surrounding villages, thus, providing a significant cost advantage.
It is deployed as a front-haul, mid-haul, and back-haul in the 5G implementation, aiding Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs).
“Gigamesh enables operators to reduce Cap-Ex cost and Op-Ex cost due to its powerful software features which maximize distributed capacity and minimize onsite maintenance. Setting up the radio is as easy as turning on your mobile. With our automatic electronic link alignment algorithms, the radio automatically searches for other GigaMesh radios in its field of view and connects with them. ANANTH Technologies has inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit at KIADB Aerospace Park, Bengaluru. The 15,000 sq. m facility will cater to the needs of both governmental and private enterprise’s needs.
The spacecraft manufacturing unit was inaugurated by Dr. S. Somanath, Secretary - Department of Space and Chairman, ISRO. “India's space programme over the last six decades have achieved multiple landmarks. Today, India can build, assemble and launch its own satellites. With ISRO at the forefront of space programmes, partnerships with private organisations will help India take its space programme to the next level. I am certain that India's Space Policy will enable us to build satellites not only for domestic consumption but for international market too. India's Remote Sensing Data Policy and Launch Vehicle Policy are in line and these will help further the Indian Space programmes. ANANTH Technologies has taken a huge leap of faith and India needs more such entrepreneurs and many more such partners to revolutionize our space programme,” he said.
The manufacturing unit from ANANTH Technologies is first of its kind. It is capable of conducting Assembly, Integration & Testing of four large spacecrafts simultaneously. All four units are independent of each other and capable of conducting the end-to-end integration of processes in four different class of spacecraft.
Since its establishment in 1992, ANANTH Technologies has contributed towards manufacturing of 89 satellites and 69 launch vehicles built/launched by ISRO, including two satellites for European customers that ISRO had built in collaboration with Airbus, France. Over the years, ANANTH has delivered spacecraft sub-systems viz., TMTC, Power, AOCE, BMU, Sun sensors, Star sensors, Solar panels, SPS and Payload packages on end-to-end basis for all classes of satellites built by ISRO, including the special missions like Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan and Gaganyaan.
“India is on the cusp of revolutionising the spacecraft industry. As a nation, we are capable of manufacturing world-class spacecrafts. Over the years, ANANTH Technologies has successfully contributed to major launches of ISRO. BENGALURU: Space research startup Spaceonova and space tech firm Skyroot Aerospace have kick-started work to launch India’s first indigenously built microgravity research platforms to perform life-science based experiments in Space.
The one-of-a-kind miniaturised lab in space, will be developed by Spaceonova, “to discover new therapeutic applications and accelerate the R&D process for industries on Earth.”
It will be launched on the launch vehicle — Vikram-I — being built by Skyroot. The firm recently test-fired the third stage of the vehicle and is confident of its first commercial launch soon.
“The plan is to launch in the first quarter (Jan – Mar) of 2023. This will be India’s first commercial life science-based experiment to be performed in microgravity research for therapeutic applications. The tie-up with Skyroot will put into orbit the first indigenously built microgravity research platform to perform such experiments in Space,” Spaceonova co-founder Shreya Santra told TOI.
Pawan Chandana, CEO & co-founder, Skyroot, stating that the firm was gearing up for its first launch with the successful completion of full-duration static fire test of Vikram-I rocket stage ‘Kalam-100’, said the firm was excited to support and offer its launch services to innovative start-ups such as Spaceonova.
Shivam K Singh, co-founder Spaceonova, said: “We aim to standardise the application of miniaturised platforms through microelectromechanical systems, lab-on-a-chip technology, micro systems technologies, etc., for the life sciences and biophysical experiments in microgravity which can accelerate the early phases of downstream processing.”
The partnering with Skyroot, he said, gives his firm access to launch services at an affordable cost, with the added backing of the former’s leadership team to support.
The firm will work with various biotech and pharmaceutical companies working on therapeutics, cosmetic companies working towards anti-aging products and fluid physics researchers who can benefit largely from this initiative and catalyse their path to innovation.
Pointing out how microgravity is a one-of-a-kind environment that holds enormous potential for innovation and substantial technological research prospects, Santra added: “The one with Skyroot is only the first of many projects we plan to implement. There are a few other ongoing discussions.”
