Swarm drones are used for literally what it means to swarm over the target making it impossible for the AD to take out all the drones and get the kill. The drones cost little compared to other missile systems. It can also force the AD batteries to expend the missiles if the target is high value, so that to make way for real strike systems like CM or other stand off systems to go in when AD batteries are engaged otherwise. Those can also swarm over enemy AD and neutralize those with minimum cost.

In a nutshell the primary role of swarm drones is to overwhelm the enemy air defence with sheer volume of numbers.

The Angel Has Fallen does show good representation, if a little exaggerated use of swarm drones. Thouigh for military purpose drones would need longer legs and bigger weapon package. 10KG warhead of the drones selected by Army can cause havoc against any military target.

Big boost to India’s drone arsenal: Indian Army to get over 100 SkyStrikers
New Delhi:
In a big boost to India’s drone arsenal, the Indian Army is all set to procure over 100 drones, 'SkyStriker', capable of mass destruction from Bengaluru based company, Alpha Design-led joint venture (JV) involving Israeli firm Elbit Security Sysy Systems (ELSEC).

The drones, also known as sky strikers, can carry ammunition atop them and can strike targets from far off distances.

The contract worth Rs 100 crore was signed on September 1.

SkyStriker is a cost-effective loitering munition that is capable of long-range precise tactical strikes. The technology-enabled SkyStriker improves performance, situational awareness and survivability by providing direct-fire aerial-precision capabilities to maneuverable troops and Special Forces.

SkyStriker is an Unmanned aircraft system that can acquire and strike operator-designated targets with a 5kg warhead installed inside the fuselage, enabling high-precision performance.

Elbit Systems described SkyStriker "as a silent, invisible and surprise attacker, that delivers the utmost in precision and reliability, providing a critical advantage in the modern battlefield".

SkyStriker can reach a distance of 20 kms within 10 minutes. It uses autonomous navigation during its cruising and loitering phases.

So, I found it on a defence decode video where Amit seem to said it was a blurred/morphed pic of SWIFT prototype which was later deleted on twitter. Don't know the authenticity though....

India Buys 4 Israeli Herons, to Upgrade Them With Missiles as Army, IAF, Navy Ramp Up Drone Inventory

India has finalised the deal to buy four new Heron TP drones from Israel that will initially be used in surveillance and reconnaissance missions, but will eventually be upgraded and armed with missiles for precision strikes under Project Cheetah when it kicks off, News18.com has learnt.

Defence sources said a contract to this effect has been signed and that the drones should arrive by the end of this year. Sources added that while the initial plan was to lease the four drones from Israel, India later decided to buy them instead.

India and US hold DTTI group meeting, sign deal for air-launched UAVs

The India-US DTTI group meeting was held virtually and focused on strengthening bilateral defence trade relations and creating opportunities to jointly develop and produce defence equipment

In a major boost for defence ties, India and the US have signed a deal to jointly develop air-launched unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as the two countries held the 11th Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) group meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting was held virtually and focused on strengthening bilateral defence trade relations and creating opportunities to jointly develop and produce defence equipment.

“The co-chairs were pleased to note that since the last DTTI group meeting in September 2020, the first project agreement for air-launched unmanned aerial vehicle under the joint working group air systems was signed, which is a major accomplishment for the DTTI,” the defence ministry said in a press statement.

The meeting was co-chaired by Raj Kumar, India’s secretary for defence production, and Gregory Kausner, the PTDO (performing the duties of) under secretary of defence for acquisition and sustainment at the US defence department.

The defence ministry said that four joint working groups attended the meeting, which focused on land, naval, air and aircraft carrier technologies that were established under the DTTI to boost mutually agreed projects.

“The groups reported to the co-chairs on ongoing activities and collaborative opportunities, including a number of near-term projects targeted for completion on priority,” the defence ministry said.

Also, in a push for India and the US to jointly develop niche technology, the Defence Industry Collaboration Forum’s (DICF) virtual expo was held on Monday.

It was convened by Anurag Bajpai, India’s joint secretary for defence industries, and Jesse Salazar, the US deputy assistant secretary of defence for industrial policy.

“This forum offers an opportunity for Indian and US industries to be directly involved in the DTTI and it facilitates dialogue between government and industry on issues that impact industrial collaboration. The results of the discussion were briefed to the DTTI group co-chairs,” the defence ministry said in the press release.

Amazing! Leaps in tech within a short timeline. We have the brains to be the best of the best and produce stuff at one-fifth the cost!

The question is: WTF were we doing for the past 70 years?

Well, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out!!
Our government also has to be such that they are interested in the defence of the nation. If the population has the power to elect people and cannot distinguish between a battle tank and a water tank, you get a nation like India.

Defence is a casualty of this excessive freedom.
