Chinese ch5 is near to have mass production

Is there something moving ahead in India too.
Is there someone who is able to share Ground zero progress.

I have a meet scheduled for month end at DRDO facility, Bangalore but it'll be good to get any progress before it.

NSG, CISF may be empowered to shoot down 'rogue' UAVs

(File photo for representation)
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The NSG & the CISF to get powers to shoot down any "erring" low-flying object if they find it as "rogue".
  • The policy is being formulated after spotting of several UAVs in airports and border areas.
  • The two forces will acquire defence mechanism like electromagnetic system, which would have inbuilt radar, radio frequency jammer and detector.
NEW DELHI: Anti-terror force NSG and industrial security agency CISF may be empowered to shoot down "rogue" low-flying objects like drones and gliders under a new policy which is being finalised.

A draft policy on operating low-flying, pilot-less objects will come up soon to deal with elements which could carry out terror attacks using drones, gliders, besides others, a home ministry official said.

The issue was discussed threadbare at a recent meeting of the Union home secretary with representatives of the Indian Air Force, civil aviation ministry, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and other stakeholders.

"The draft drone policy is in the final stage. It is focused on regulating the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and similar low-flying objects. The policy should come out in public domain this month itself to solicit comments from stakeholders," the official said.

The National Security Guard (NSG) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are likely to be given powers to shoot down any "erring" low-flying object if they find it as "rogue", the official said.

The two forces will acquire defence mechanism like electromagnetic system, which would have inbuilt radar, radio frequency jammer and detector.

The policy will have preventive features to ensure that there is no misuse of any kind of low-flying objects by terrorist groups or other anti-national elements.

The policy is being formulated after spotting of several UAVs in airports and border areas, hampering air traffic and raising security concern.

"It has become necessary to regulate UAVs to prevent their misuse in sensitive areas like airports. The policy will have provisions on how to check rogue elements operating UAVs," another official said.

The policy will have dual aspects of enabling features: licensing the UAVs for their use along the international borders as well as in guarding vital installations inside the country, and disaster relief works.

Currently, there is no policy on how to deal with a situation when a drone is sighted. There is nothing in the law to book a person if he or she involves in any mischief by operating a drone.

"There are no standard operating procedures to deal with the UAVs. That is why the new policy is being brought in," the security official said.

When a law is finally being enacted, it will define punishment, fine and also who can get license to fly a drone.

Overweight, underpowered... I hope India is not heading in that direction.

Unmanned Variant of HAL Tejas: How much feasible is it ?
*************************************
It was first in 2008 that a news came in that HAL would derive an unmanned variant of Tejas. Then in March 2017 it was massively reported that a team has already started work on the project to convert the LCA into a drone and India’s premier aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is confident that the project can be carried out within a short time frame.
“We have started an internal study on making a unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) on the Tejasplatform. Besides, we are confident on coming up with an unmanned version of Chetak helicopter as well,” HAL Chief T Suvarna Raju told ET.
Converting a semi stealth 4+ gen. fighter into a UCAV is quite feasible in India where the cruel environment of Himalayas have taken more lives of pilots than enemy fire power. Earlier conversion of a fighter into trainer has been done so that these fighters could be used as a target practice. Here the displays, the life support systems, the ejection seat and various other systems would be replaced by a large antenna that receives satellite navigation based commands. To operate a UCAV beyond line of sight of a ground based antenna, a robust satellite navigation is needed. Earlier only Americans had it so the developed predator drones. With an indigenous satellite navigation a flying high level unmanned bomber would killer.
India is already developing a stealth UCAV named Ghatak, but the load carrying capacity of such UCAVs is quite decent. The Tejas may be a light fighter but if converted into UCAV and judged by that standards Unmanned LCA would be a high capacity one.
The conversion of a full-fledged fighter system into an unmanned platform is an onerous task. Apart from the easier material changes, including removal of non-essential items (actuallynota simple task on the Tejas, as maintainability roadblocks have shown), the conversion of the Tejas — like Boeing’s conversion of the F-16 to the QF-16 — will involve major changes to the flight control system (FCS). The conversion will also involve the installation of a kill switch/flight termination system to make sure ground control can destroy the aircraft in flight and the addition of telemetry sensors and systems. But the centrepiece of the conversion will be the Tejas FCS. Because the current FCS is designed keeping in mind the health capabilities of a human pilots and intended to filter out human errors. The FCS would be completely new.
It would provide HAL a valuable amount of expertise in this field. It may also be converted into a live target practice drone. Generally a project is launched by agencies considering inputs and suggestions directly from officers of armed forces and analysts. It is not like just an idea is conceived to fulfill one man's flights of fantasy.

hilarous finding the wind tunnel model of the ucav ghatak.
its worthcoming and will be very happy if the ghatak variant engine is produced at faster rate, which could become a powerpack even for any future light attack twin engine variant aircraft like the scorpion of the us a 10 replacement rate.

dont think so uav gcs have two controler cabin not 4 ..here its more than 2 kind of cs for radar system ..
look carefully

there are 2 controller stations at 12 o clock , you can see the control stick on the the left controller station and another one on the right controller station, the middle console i believe is related to weapon control and fire , they have it for the UCAV version of rustom when it comes online

rest are data/imagery exploitation stations and the cabinet on the extreme right with 3 small colored console is related to data link

and there is no hard and fast rule as to the no of stations that can be employed , it depends on the developer and their goals/requirements

here is a zoomed pic , see for yourself
