India's contribution in R&D is going up: study - dnaindia.com

London: India's contribution in scientific research and innovation has been constantly rising
since 2000, according to a study.

The number of articles published in global science journals by Indians has increased from around 17,000 in 2001 to more than 27,000 in 2007, the study carried out by media house Thomson Reuters said.

The number stood at 12,500 in 1985, which went up to 17,000 in 2001 and it rose 20,000 in 2003, it pointed out. The number of articles published by Indians clearly
indicates the importance of domestic research institutes in research and development, it added.

The study doesn't include the number of journals sent by Indians working overseas as they got published with foreign addresses. India was ranked at 14th place, ahead of many European countries such as Switzerland, Russia, Sweden and Belgium, in terms of the contribution made in the field of engineering.

The majority of the Indian articles which got published, are in the field of physical sciences, Thomson Reuters study said.

"Indians are known for their scientific potential and have finally positioned themselves strongly in this field," it pointed out.
