There is method to OFB madness. They know no self-respecting military will buy anything they produce willingly. So their products will be geared towards the market they are targeting that of the Somalian militia.

When did this happen?

India to buy 104 K-30 Biho Anti Aircraft Systems for Indian Army.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K30_Biho

https://www.armyrecognition.com/may...obile_air_defense_system_for_indian_army.html

Even RSTV had carried a detailed report on it.

Also fitted with Chiron Missiles (7 km range)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiron_(missile)

This is replacement for Shikla and Tunguska AA systems

So perhapAir Defence Corps would look like this.
K30 Biho > QRSAM > Akash > MRSAM

Not sure if it will replace Osa used by IAF
After Russia, US, Israel, France, now we've started importing from the Koreans. A country of 50 million.

I guess we will know the answer after the new air defence command is created in the next 3 years.

My understanding is that NASAMS2 is for Delhi, S-400 is for the borders. They don’t intersect. We already have separate indigenous radars for tracking from a surveillance perspective.

NASAMS seems more tactical, while s400 seems more strategic, imo. So I think it will be the reverse. S400 for Delhi, and NASAMS at the border. Though with 5 S400 regiments, there will be plenty for border operations too. And what's the need of NASAMS when we are already going ahead of LRSAM? Or for that matter, what advantage does it have over the set of s400 missiles?

VSHORAD missile system, SPAD-GMS deal to be placed before Defence Acquisition Council
Two much-needed weapon systems, mired in controversy for months after a series of complaints, will be placed before the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) very shortly.

Specially appointed monitors have finally 'cleared' the two weapon systems-- the Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORAD) and the Self Propelled Air Defence Gun Missile System (SPADGMS)-- and they can be placed before the DAC headed by defence minister Rajnath Singh and including chief of defence staff General Bipin Rawat and the three service chiefs. The green light for both systems came after a recent high-level meeting in South Block. Both are big deals and while the Russians are favourites for the VSHORAD project, the front-runners for the SPADGM system may be the South Koreans. The VSHORAD project is of course for all three services, the SPADGM System could accompany the Army's strike corps during offensive operations. Five regiments are likely to be procured.

Another much-needed project is also being readied for the DAC. This is for the production of 200 Russian Ka-226 helicopters to be manufactured jointly by Hindustan Aeronautics and the Russians. Of the 200, 135 will go to the Army and the remaining 65, to the Indian Air Force. This deal has been in the making for a long while and the helicopters will be replacements for the aging Cheetah and Chetak choppers. The decision to have HAL as a joint venture partner was taken by the Russians.

Several major issues will be placed before the DAC, likely on March 18 and perhaps, the last such meeting in this financial year. These include:

* two simulators for the Hawk advanced jet trainer (AJT) for the air force. These are valued at approximately Rs 300 crore each.

* fuses for bombs for the air force. They have been designed in India and is likely to be manufactured in India. About 15,000 fuses will be initially bought for about Rs 700 crore.

* The DAC will also look at the reduction in numbers of the Kamov-31 helicopter to be purchased for the Indian Navy. Instead of ten as earlier planned, six could be bought.

* Similarly, the Navy was to get four Multi-purpose vessels. Now, it could be two.

it's a result of absurd planning. we have good ties with Israel, why don't we take help from them to increase the capabilities of our own BMD. A blue print to cover all installations and cities can easily be achieved now. No need to spend billions on this US junk. I think it's used to pacify US concerns on purchasing S-400.

This is where the centralised defence strategy is important in capacity development
CDS where are you

Also there are chances of Modi adventurism in POK perhaps thats why such aggressive diplomacy and equipment purchase from UN security council permanent members then the aircraft deal with france shiuld be a no surprise.

These systems can also prove towards a much holistic and integrated development towards capacity building for india in advanced technologies

And seeing indian companies making equipment like ATGM guided bombs etc are promising for future
CDS is enjoying to be a member of nav-ratna of Modi Gov. Let me say here that his ego and his chatty nature will ensure that CDS position will go null and void. Recent example is IN's ask for third AC. And he said no to it.
We need a dedicated AAD command primarily using our BMD, S-400, Aakash, Spyder, XR-SAM, QRSaM and Astra-VL. And Corona Virus has also ensured that all defence acqisition plans will go into vain.

Advantage DRDO, India might shelve NASAMS II purchase from the United States

Published May 13, 2020 | By admin SOURCE: IDRW NEWS NETWORK With clear orders from the Prime Minister Office, Armed forces have been told to cut import of foreign defense equipment amid slowing economy due to the Chinese virus pandemic and prefer procurement of local Indian substitute. According to sources close to idrw.org, procurement of NASAMS II from the United States soon will be put on the backburner and likely to be shelved indefinitely for the time being US state department had notified its Congress of the impending sale of NASAMS II multi-layered air defense shield earlier this year for $1.86 billion. Delhi had called for price negotiation after it was found to be too expensive to procure. Defense analysts had called out New Delhi for ignoring indigenous products for the imported system due to alleged mounting pressure on India to consider their procurement to avoid sanctions after New Delhi went ahead to ink the $5.43 billion deal with Russia for five squadrons of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems in 2018. NASAMS II multi-layered air defense shield was selected to provide aerial shield for a National Capital Territory of Delhi against aerial threats ranging from drones to ballistic missiles. India has plans to have a Three-layer shield for the National Capital where will see the deployment of the indigenous two-tier ballistic missile defense (BMD) system being developed by DRDO for the Outer security against Intermediate-range ballistic missile and long-range cruise missiles. Mid-tier will see the deployment of the S-400 system against Aircraft and ballistic missile and inner-tier will see the deployment of the NASAMS II type system which will provide a shield against precision-guided ammunition and drones in the inner circle. If New Delhi goes ahead and shelves NASAMS II purchase from the United States then Akash 1S and Akash NG could be procured for providing aerial shield at an inner circle or DRDO will be cleared to develop NASAMS II type system consisting of Ground launched Astra BVRAAM missiles for protection against smaller threats. Defense Analysts Ranesh Rajan speaking to idrw.org believes that more such aerial shied will be coming in major cities of India in near future and Mumbai is next city to get a similar shield and NASAMS II system requirement could only have grown in near future as more cities come under three-tier missile shield in near future, going for the local system will make much more sense as NASAMS II system as no capability to tackle short or medium range ballistic missiles and indigenous Akash surface to air missiles have demonstrated its ability to neutralize small targets like Drones and PGMs.

We need layered air defence ...
1)Anti ballistic missile
2)S-400 this should be used only to target high value targets
3)Lrsam Command level protection
4)Mrsam Corps level protection
All these four layers should be controlled by one agency for better response
5)Akash variants should be used strictly defend the bases
6)Qrsam range should be increased to 40+km to protect Integrated battle groups
7)We need something like Tor missile system with range up to 20km for integrated battle groups
8)Shorad missle should be used in multiple platforms.A missile with a range of up to 10km can be used in Tor like system plus can be used as Iron dome to protect from Brute force attack like mlrs.

QRSAM weapon system is capable of search on move, track on move and fire on short halts while engaging multiple targets at ranges of about 30 km with two vehicle configuration for area Air Defence. All ground system equipments for the Battery Combat Vehicle (CV) and Support Vehicles, Mobile Launcher Vehicle (MLV), Battery Multi-Function Radar Vehicle (BMFRV), Battery Surveillance Radar Vehicle (BSRV), Battery Command Post Vehicle (BCPV), embossed canister and Transport and Loader Vehicle (TLV) has been realized. During the period (January, 2018 – March, 2019), four developmental flight trials were conducted wherein all objectives were met. Weapon system integration trials & performance evaluation is under progress at Kolar.

India Steps Up Security Along LAC, Deploys QRSAM In Ladakh Amid Chinese Air Activities
In a significant development along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Republic TV sources have said that in the backdrop of increased activity by the Chinese Choppers, the Indian Armed Forces have deployed Surface to Air Missiles (SAM) defence system in Ladakh area. The air defence system was deployed to take care of the area and to prevent violations by the Chinese Army, sources added.

QRSAM deployed at the Eastern Ladakh Sector

Sources said that the Chinese activity was increased in the Eastern Ladakh area before the Galwan Valley incident and their choppers were spotted as they tried to enter the Indian territory. To counter any such activity by the PLA army, the Armed Forces have deployed Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile System (QRSAM) at the Eastern Ladakh Sector.

Meanwhile, the Centre on Sunday gave the three defence forces financial powers up to Rs 500 crore per project for the acquisition of critical ammunition required in case an all-out or limited conflict breaks out, according to ANI. This move has been taken in amid the Galwan valley face-off where 20 soldiers were martyred. Similar financial powers were given to the armed forces after the Uri attack and the Balakot aerial strikes against Pakistan.

No To burst your myth
QR SAM = The SPYDER systems were delivered starting in 2012. 18 SPYDER-MRs along with 750 Python-5 surface to air missiles (SAMs) and 750 Derby SAMs has been delivered

Akash Missile system

he Indian military's combined orders of the Akash, including radar systems (WLR and Surveillance), have a total worth of ₹ 23,300 crore (US$4 billion)
It is expected that this cost will further decrease due to the economies of scale achieved as production ramps up. The Indian military (IAF & IA) have a combined order worth ₹23,300 crore ($5.18 billion)

IAF = Eight squadrons in service, seven more ordered Each squadron contains 125 missiles
Each regiment comprises 240–288 launchers and 625–750 missiles

Barak8 MRSAM (100 Km)

A contract for the MRSAM programme was signed in February 2009. The IAF will buy 450 MRSAMs and 18 firing units at a value of more than $2bn.

The Indian Army ordered five regiments of this version, which consists of about 40 launchers and 200 missiles for ₹17,000 crore (US$2.4 billion). It is expected to be deployed by 2023 with first deliveries commencing in 2020

Irrelevant Point you said things About current system Which Operationally deployed Or Being Deployed Don't change Goal post
I think you have not heard the news that
Desi QRSAM has been deployed in ladakh
This system was already in user trail

Form your logic you also can't talk about LRSAM (not operational and deployed) S400 (not deployed in India) now you need to stop . Discussion then
Peace

Spyder has been deployed in Leh not QRSAM. User trials for QRSAM are yet to start.
User trials are a luxury of peace time . We keep trialing things for multiple years. In war time basic trials are enough.
Anyway qrsam is a derivative of Akash and not a new system so army is very familiar with it.

It is indian qrsam which is deployed I believe.
