World No 1 Men's doubles badminton duo just won the French Open title.

Very humble guys too. Here's them interacting with a Telugu vlogger in Paris.

Seems like we and Danish are going to destroy Chini dominance in Badminton. Even in TT, many other countries have started doing good against Chinese and South-East Asian countries now.

Few years back was at the Yonex All England and Lakshya Sen won his SF and coming out in the crowd was Satwik - so I gave my Telegu friend a little nudge to spot him and he was nice enough to have a little chat in Telegu with him and pictures with the rest of the Indian fans once they clocked on.

I wish that was the case but China are still the strongest though not as dominant as before - almost always in a final week in week out on the world tour. For Indian players they have the skills but their physical fitness and mental fortitude needs strengthening. Satwik/Chirag are really the only hope of a medal in badminton for Paris Olympics. The good news is they opened a centre of excellence in Guwahati and they hired some world-class coaches - so hopefully the system improves as a whole to produce a strong talent pool in the future.

Not true. She lost in semis on purpose; to remain at her physical peak for the 50 kg final (which she won). Antim Panghal has already won the quota in 53 kg (courtesy of her bronze medeal at the 2023 world championship) and thus, Vinesh would have to defeat her twice to make it to the Olympics (the best amongst the top 4 finishers across a specific weight category is given the opportunity to defeat the quota winner a few months before the games; if the challenger wins, a rematch is organized and the winner of that match makes it to the Olympics). For now, Vinesh will be going in the quilifiers to earn her place at 50 kg - if she manages to bag her quota that will be the end of it. Otherwise, the bumpier path to 53 kg remains open as well (because she made it to the semis in that category too).

When it comes to badminton, the chinese are anyway not as dominant as they were about 15 years back.

In TT, their women's team survived a scare against India at the World Team Championship 2024;

Anyway, both our men's and women's teams have made it to Paris 2024 - for the first time ever;

On a separate note, Sharath Kamal made it to the QF of Singapore Smash (the most prestigious TT tourney after Olympics and world championships) after scoring a series of upset wins over higher ranked opponents;

Why so? Lakshya Sen is very much back in business after he parted ways his former coach (Anup Sridhar) and made it to the semis at back to back tourneys (French Open and All England); defeating the likes of Li Shi Feng, Antonsen, Loh and Lee Zii Jia.

HS Prannoy might be suffering from back to back injuries but after his exploits at the 2023 world championship (where he defeated Axelsen to bag a fantastic bronze medal), you can never write him off.

Heck, I would say even PV Sindhu is back - lost a thriller to Chen Yu Fei (the reigning Olympic champion) last week - a match that went on for 93 freaking minutes!

We are the reigning Thomas Cup champions and are about to send representations at 4 different categories at the Olympics (MS, WS, MD, WD) for the first time in history. Even our upcoming generations are brimming with talents - look what a 17 year old Anmol Kharb did at the Asian team championships about a few weeks back (our women's team are the reigning Asian champions btw - again a first in our history);

In men's singles both Priyanshu Rajawat and Ayush Shetty are to be watched closely in the coming years - remember their names! And we still have room to grow more...

Damn bad luck strikes.
This past year has been like that only, first, Ravi Dahiya, then Hussamuddin (men's boxing) and now, Murali. 3 genuine medal contenders gone.

If our shooting contingent does not make up for it, we are in for a terrible outing!

17 Year old Gukesh won the Candidates tournament ahead of World no 2, 3 and 4.

He will face the current World Champion, Ding Liren from China towards the end of this year for the Championship title.

The current record for the youngest world champion is 22. Gukesh will only be 18 when he plays the Championship match against Ding Liren.
