him to convey on the communication set to the other squad that he would
be blinking his flashlight to indicate his position—a terribly dangerous
move in the situation, but it was the only way to take the next step. Maj.
Kumar once again cautioned him, saying the flashlight would paint a big fat
target sign on them for the terrorists to fire at."

If they had nods and LAMs they could have easily indicated their position using their IR lasers without compromising themselves and maybe the results would have been different...

Thats why equipment's are important valor does not give you the ability to see in dark.

This is the reason IR strobes have existed for >35 years.

of course we are told the Indian military is the best of the best and doesn’t need all the western Gucci equipment

Sadly they won't change even after disasters like this. I have given up hopes.
