That major was a top notch professional at his job. (Go and ask his seniors /juniors)
He did exceptional with the shitty equipments provided to him.
He got injured due to the faulty equipment
Still he didn't whine like you do on these forums.
Maybe if he had whines a little or maybe tried a little bit the future generations of para sf would have had it a little easier. Maybe if his seniors had whines a little he wouldnt have had to go through that parachute accident?

Watch from 54:30 - 57:28
I'm impressed how some forum members shoot shit with confidence
3 malfunctions in 11 jumps is not just faulty equipment. It's culpable homicide attempt by the manufacturer at that point.

I know there was some experimentation with the automatically deploying system (don't remember the name) and it would malfunction for a hundred different reasons. Was this one of those?

I have a hard time believing a regular parachute(s) would malfunction so often.

And that is why old gen officers say that todays gen doesn't have it.
The only thing remarkable about the old gen was the level of camaraderie the officer's had. Nowadays everyone is competing to get a better ACR and outperforming the other in various staff and command courses. The level of trust between coursemates isn't as high as it used to be back in the day thanks to the competition.

Isn't that a bad thing in war scenario ?

Nope, have to disagree on that. The officer of today has far greater cohesion With Jawans, the old gen was very closed off to the troops and JCOs, they created a fine line of distinction between ORs and themselves breaching which can have serious consequences, the treatment of Jawans was much worse than today but was rarely reported in that time, they rarely interacted with the troops and only passed orders, it's the fear of the officer which drove the Jawan to obey each and every officer. Today the officers are approachable and more willing to understand issues of troops.

It is in one way, but ultimately, increased competition means officers will try their best to perform better than their Coursemates to get promoted. That means only the best will be able to reach leadership positions. But it does create problems in a war scenario.

What the heck is this? Every two bit general gets a PARA SF detail now (fashioned in their shiny boots, ribbon filled chests etc) and that too in the interior of the country?

What a lost cause the army is, the majority of the officer class are no better than the impotent neta/babu cliques

He's not a two bit general, he's the commander of ARTRAC, which is a very very important appointment.
