We lost to them though (any veteran will agree) and here you are trying to play with words to...
Cope.
No we did not lose any battles to them. We left when Sri Lankans turned against us. If we are fighting both sides then there is really no point us being there.

You are playing semantics and word game like a libtard. We won the military front but lost the political front. This was our Vietnam moment.
So we lost, right?

Also, funny how you accused me (who's asking a simple, direct question of "Victory or loss?") and then started with semantics yourself.

And how in the hell did we win the military front?
Did we win the hearts and minds of the locals?
No.
Did we eradicate LTTE?
No.

Was the IPKF goal finishing off LTTE or merely stacking body bags?
C'mon man. Make some sense.

Some people here think victory means dead bodies.

If that was the case, Germany won the Eastern front, not USSR.
America won Vietnam and Afghanistan.
USSR also won Afghanistan and Serbs won all the Balkan wars.

A military sets out on a campaign with some landmark goals which when accomplished, are considered victory.
Setting out to capture a hill and then failing to do so counts as a loss even if you inflicted a hundred casualties for each man lost on your side.
Similarly, losing a hundred men for each man on the hill but capturing the hill counts as a victory, casualties notwithstanding.

If you're going to make claims like "We won Sri Lanka", you need a thesaurus.

No one, not even the most patriotic of veterans will say we won Sri Lanka.
People born after that war are now disputing veterans who fought in the war.

Perhaps the veterans didn't have the full picture, unlike the members here, eh?

I never said we won you fuckinf idiot, my original point that it was a defeat not forged by military arms but political incompetency holds true.

Fine I admit, we lost. I was wrong. Although the aim of the IPKF was to disarm it to the point of taking in the elections, not really eradicating it

Imagine having a soft spot for literal jungle rats lol. Fuck LTTE. I sleep happy knowing prabhakaran is a roasted pakoda and that over 50,000 of his pigs were killed by a significantly weaker shit Lankan army
Wait what? Prabhakaran was the best thing that happened to India wrt SL. If we had supported his Tamil Eelam thing, we'd have military bases all over eastern SL. We squandered it and China took advantage.

Yeah a full withdrawal on our part is a military victory, right? The entire senior leadership of LTTE was still alive. They still had thousands of cadres.

Also, the whole point of the IPKF was to protect the Tamils from Sinhala aggression, not fight them.

Vietnam was a military defeat for the US btw. Just like AF.

Moral of the story is, the only way to fully win counterinsurgency campaign where a whole population is against you is to instil fear of eradicating said population or actually do the same. Like the Rajapakasas did to the Tamils.

Biggest geopolitical blunder ever IMO. Gave so much weapons and trainings just for it to be used against our own forces.
