Everything you have described is what is wrong with our Army Para SF. We don't need more men. We needs conventional commanders to get the fuck out of the way.
Corps commanders from any arm Of the army are thoroughly well indoctrinated for any type of dimension of battle ops be it the special forces or the infantry or armour . They are imparted Knowledge about various operational tactics during their High Command courses at Army War College Mhow and DSSC course in wellington . So a corps commander from infatry can thoroughly plan SF ops and issue orders to the men to exceute an operation because he already has the knowledge about the dimensions of SF ops

Thats during war time, the assets are distributed to everyone. But during peace time they should have no control over them and SF should be able to independently purchase their equipment, modify their training and tactics among others.

By independence what do you mean ? Should they be under The control of Army HQ or not ? Do you want the army to carve out SF as a seperate entity totally unrelated to the army ?

Kind off, being under command of SOCOM
Special operations command is for Pan india SF operations . They don't do theatre level Ops . One thing which can be done is carving out theatre formations from SOCOM and stationing other SF units under them permanently in that particular theatre . In this way SF units will be relieved of Corps HQ control over them , like a SF brigade in Kashmir under direct control of SOCOM and not under the corps . But then how will SF cordinate Operational Plans with the rest of the corps in case of war .

Like the Umricans. They form Task Force for their SOFs and they plan and co ordinate their ops with conventional assets but yet are most of the time independent.

In america the army has 4 corps . Each corps has one green beret unit attatched to the corps . They have got 30,000 or so SF operatives which allows them to spare men for forming indpendent Task Forces .indian army has 14 corps . We have got 7,000 para SF operatives for an army twice the size of US army ( US army has 500,000 personnel in 10 divisions and 4 corps ) . We cant spare men the way they do . It is essentially important for a corps to have an SF compoment in its ORBAT to gain a decisive edge in war

Yeah and there army is smaller than ours . 8,000 green berets plus 2500 rangers for 4 corps Vs 7,000 pars SF for 14 corps . You tell me now how much can we spare
I hope you are taking in factor the GWOT which was extremely SOF driven unlike the conventional wars which are fought. They expanded alot after GWOT, we also expanded after 2000s difference is we started overusing and underequipping our SF in CI/CT. We Prepare for a Conventional War not a Counter Insurgency one.

Can you give me some examples , i would appreciate it
Just scroll through this thread backwards you would see it. The older battalions are okeyish but the newer ones not so much and due to lack of a centralized structure of Para SF the newer battalions cant even take advantage of older battalions experience and the way of working.

My friends are in SF, ( one in garud and one in para sf ) , I asked them about the the equipments they were using , I got a reply things are much better than before , even the training and other aspects , they were getting more involved with other SF's in terms of combined training and experience sharing.
From their word I could feel the Direction is good we , things are improving.
