My mistake then, was thinking he’ll talk about the issues regarding modernisation.
I think the lack of rehab facilities and outdated rigid requirements are what @Nightshade1992 is referring to here, for an injury that could be treated rather than limiting an experienced person or forcing them to retire.
This is indeed concerning as it may lead to a great loss of experienced skilled personnel on whom the Army has invested a lot in as well as the personnel has invested a lot in. As obviously retaining experienced manpower is essential and training new ones are obviously going to cost more and a great loss of potential.

Special Group are not SMU complete different mission sets and gear set you are asking from a primary recon force.
Recon? That isn’t SG’s main role at all. They do a varied set of tasks but recon is far from what they do on a regular basis, they take direction directly from the intel agencies

Yeah i meant in they are completely different from a SMU like Delta/Devgru/SAS who will be heavily equipped compared to SG/SAD/CAD etc whose job is more to blend in.
eg: CIA SAD during early days of GWOT

We are 20 years behind
30+

delta in the early 90s was much more squared away than any Indian unit today.
Because our solution is not to build from the ground up but to put lipstick on a pig. There is a video on the International SOF thread of a Nato Urban Sniper Training Course. That alone will tell you how miles off we are from developing niche skill sets.

The title is wrong but it’s also right. SF don’t do this nonsense. Elite infantry (commandos) do

that we don’t even know if they are SF or airborne says it all, almost no attempt has been made to delineate them in the past 2 decades, aside from a single SF tab they are identical in form and to an extent remit.

I do hope para SF is disbanded in upcoming reforms and the parachute regiment cemented as what they are- airborne infantry.

it dosent include airborne but even 9 battalions are undersized for a country like ours . SSG has 8 battalions for a scale
That's irrelevant, the SSG can do whatever it wants according to their mandate. We need less men, more specialised transportation and equipment as well as a clearly demarcated purpose and division of roles between the Ghataks, the various SFs and beyond. SF are not infantry, we don't need them everywhere, only at the right places.

Hey guys,
Be sure to tune in to Major avinash's instagram channel. He will be uploading a long duration video today evening where he will be stating the facts and grim reality of current Indian army. It will be a hard pill to swallow and may irk the top brass but it had to be done. Everything that has been discussed in this forum regarding the pathetic condition of Indian SF will be highlighted there according to his practical experience.
Peace!
Any link for those who don't have IG?

We need more men , more specialised transportation and more equipment . Roles of various SFs have already been defined in the army . Ghataks are organised as a platoon in every infantry battalion and are tasked with doing tactical operations which consolidates the position of a battlion during an offensive or while taking up defense of battalion positions , their actions have little to no strategic impact and their AoO is within a 10km radius of the Battalion HQ . Every para SF battalion operates in a specific environment and undertakes a specific role . 4 and 9 para operate along the LoC , 10 para operates in thar desert , similarly 21 para operates in NE . All battalions are already deployed in their respective AoOs . We had no para SF battalion to spare during the ladakh crisis and finally had to split a battalion from 50th para brigade to be sent to ladakh . They took time to acclimiatise and are now deployed there . Tomorrow if some problem crops up in sikkim or arunachal then we again will have no SF battalion to spare as all of them are already deployed in their area of operations . Taking them out of their area of operations and deploying them to a new area will raise many problems for them . They will have to familiarise with the terrain and work out new ops plans to deal with the enemy . Ideally we should have para SF battalions specialised in a certain role in all theatres
These theatres include
1) The Thar
2) Punjab
3) Kutch
4) ladakh
5) Kashmir
6) Central sector
7) Sikkim
8)north east ( Nagaland , Manipur)
9) arunachal
Our SF is of fine size and needs an expansion of two battalions to ensure all round protection of all the theatres
